Is it just me or did this redesign just launch? Looks like it's morphing into Google.

It hasn't changed for me...
The homepage takeover is currently giving me a "Page not found" though... That's going to cost them!

no change here?

I'm noticing a push towards google also. Can google be considered a standard since so many people use it? I actually heard a designer once say the decisions he made were based on google's homepage.

They changed the video page.

looks like 2005 to me

It's definitely updated. I can feel a Google-esque shift, but it's subtle enough that we might not be able to pinpoint it.

its got the same 'generic' looking design as google stuff has...

isn't it owned by google now?

Apparently it's opt-in only.

Yeah, been noticing slight changes here and there all the time. Very sneaky.

we do a lot of work with and for google, and it looks as though they're totally following the usual google standards and guidelines in a lot of things....

just went live for me.
on the video page, the info in the dropdown under is # of views is pretty nice.
has the cc button on the player been there for long? I'm trying to find more videos with this feature. the "transcribe audio (beta)" really fucks up, but sure is funny to read.
- this one has the cc/transcribe feature: http://www.youtube.c…pizzafire

I'm not a big fan of the youtube redesign but I do like watching google slowly and subtly building a visual brand language. Google is being smart and incrementally applying the look to it's applications. Everyone seems to go into fits whenever google changes anything.

I'm sure the design team is operating within a very limited space where they can't change the branding or disrupt the overall user experience too much. Having said that they've added some pretty well thought out subtle improvements.
Couple new features I noticed in the new version that is pretty cool is that you can search "live" while watching a video. Try typing a name into search and hitting ENTER (not the search button). Also on Chrome you can break a tab off into a new browser instance and the video will seamlessly keep playing.
- screenshot? I'm not going to opt in to anything just yetismith
