Perhaps rosem...but when they release a piece of shit, it deserves to be canned. The iPad has FAIL written all over it.

the only thing we can judge people on is the past... and in the past 5+ years... apple > microsoft.
if you were to hire someone to make a mobile device, who would you hire? someone with the best selling mobile device of all time or someone grasping at straws?

Geez you guys judge a product by its brand. It might be a MS product, but it does look cool and nice. Yea, i know most of us here uses macs and whatnot. But a mix of stuff is not necessarily bad. If this is indeed coming out Im getting this more than the iPad. This is more useful than lugging around a big-ass iPhone, of which i already have.

It's kinda funny to consider how much stuff people will be willing to buy and pay for on a monthly basis before they reach some kind of tipping/ saturation point. You'll have your cable TV subscription of course. Once this 3D thing takes off I have no doubt they'll be hoping to charge premium (I can hear the slogan now "everyday is like Avatar").
If you're into gaming you'll want your X-Box Live membership to play the amazing new games of the future. You'll need a monthly cable internet service obviously, to use the X-Box membership. Then of course the fee for your iPhone so you can call people. The monthly fee for iPhone data. And now we have the Apple iPad with its own monthly fee for those moments when an iPhone or a computer just won't do.
Or...would you rather have the brand new Microsoft Courier? Or maybe you need both actually since the Courier isn't really an iPad, and fits a separate niche between the iPhone and the iPad. Neither of these things of course have the "digital ink technology," so for anything longer than a page you'll want the Amazon Kindle with associated subscription. In order to make your iPad, Courier, and Kindle worthwhile you'll need to subscriptions to the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Netflix, Pandora, Last.fm, Soundcloud, and Photoshop Online, along with maybe throwing down $15-30 on whatever cool new apps come out each week.
Don't forget the hosting for your portfolio site, your Typekit subscription, AIGA dues and QBN Pro membership. Did I miss anything?

Might be the first time yet that an Apple® product gets taken to the rafters at its own game. Who knows, I'm drunk?

this kind of fancy gadget only increase the process in a time consuming data filling... to sketch I prefer a moleskine book and some crayons... to bookmark some images the ipod touch/ iphone, or regular browser in enough. Companies are not creating tools only stupid toys and candys and wasting and polluting the planet. there is no a DO-IT-ALL-MACHINE.
I would love to use a touch screen technology sync with photoshop, illustrator, or something that relief my hand pain after all day typing...

Alot of the functions seem unnecessary. Why draw the different options? just have a button Bill! I dont want to have to use my wrist any more than I have to. Does it take pictures? This just seems like a hokey thing for kids. Next holiday season will be the release I bet.
Thats pretty much it.
- I forgot it comes with free ad-ware and mal-ware. Enjoy!74LEO

... and finally to be even more negative... let's not forget about the HUGE BEVEL DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN
you can say people are hating on it because it's microsoft — but the truth is, the only reason someone would buy this shit is because it's not an apple (inferior or not). there I said it.
time to get offline.

I think it's a great demo, but I'm a little skeptical myself

I can type much faster than I can write.
Are people really peeing themselves off someone's dream machine renderings? Also, "runs on the same OS as the Zune HD"... This looks nothing like the Zune OS. Where's the consistency?
I call bs.
- rosem0
... and to be ever more negative... the software/ui seems cool in an ideal fantasy demo world — but it seems really rigid and linear.
- Josev0
why would being left handed be a problem. That could be fixed with a preference setting, no?
- rosem0
... and to be even more negative... what about us lefties? touch screen and pen = all sorts of mayhem.
- I'd like to to think the'd have an option. Still, your typogtaphy will be a bit awry. haha, sucks to be deformed.detritus
- yeah, when I write on a chalkboard or dry erase my penmanship goes to shit.rosem
- and I think the only option would be to disable the screen for touch, and only recognize the stylus?rosem

I don't have the link to hand, but I saw some Microsoft widget demo recently with a really neat, typographically-led, interface. Some of it is evident in these videos here.
Whilst my default state is to hate Microsoft, I'm getting good vibes about their future over the past few months. We need someone, other than Google, to stand against Apple in terms of the consumer tech experience - if only to keep The Game hot. Apple aren't themselves the nicest of companies - I can't help but feel that they're filling the void M$ is desperately trying to vacate.

turn your laptop 90 degrees and tell me how well this idea would work.
- silentseven0
@rosem How do you hold a book, a notepad or hell - a sketchbook.
@kult - Totally agreeThere are some good ideas and concepts here both UI and lifestyle. Its getting really tired discounting companies based on their name. Chances are that the guys who developed this have nothing to do with MS but were allowed to use the vast array of resources available to them by teaming with MS. Yes the UI is ugly and that typeface is horrid but imagine that the app dev's from apple lend a hand making this skinnable device.
The whole its MS is a tired argument and so is the apple fan boy-ism.

In the second video, the animated as the whole thing finger drags items smoothly between the screens.
In the first video though, the dragged items are sort of parked in limbo between screens, so you can continue dragging on each side.
I wonder how this is going to work.

Let's just wait until both are released before we declare a winner.
