I was asked to do a presentation to middle schoolers (12-14yr olds) on how to use weebly
they picked it up in no time , they are at an age that they are trying to be taken seriously , so just a clean look I would skirt away from any "kid" concepts and just make it look user friendly and non overwhelming

perhaps think more how this age group use technology and identify socially through fashion rather than "environment" which basically = trees and water rather than something cool and relevant

Yeh, the first header was aimed to be more mature and environmental- but they asked for more kid-friendly. So that's where I'm at.
Thanks for the input.

Watch the Disney Channel at night. My son sometimes watches it, I believe that age group is over cartoons and illos, and more about 'what looks cool'.
I would check Jonas, Hanna Montana, Wizards ..., Zack & Cody... I'm basing this on kids I know more or less in that range who watch these things...

You should never hit a 5th grader!

10-15 is a big age difference. Should be 10-12 13-14 and 15

Kids at that age like to role play. They like to pretend they are pirates or space robots. Yours seems like a happy place where the world is clean and environmental. Yes, it seems pre-schoolish. Nice design though.

you should look at what other medium is targeting the 10-15 year old markets and see how they showcase their advert with them in mind.
the sports industry with its sponsoring of their individual players to be role models for them is a good start for you.. you should see how that age demographic reacts to the media hype of what is being shown to them..
this should help formulate your concept for the artwork. in the adverts see how the extreme is shown.. the over exaggerated.. children today are more exposed to things on a constant daily that in order to grab their attentions you must use the extremes..
colour, shape, idea, function..
the image you showcased to me sings a fairytale or children's story book nursery rhyme.. not pre-teen to mid teen.. environment ok.. but most kids i know live in a metropolis city, suburbs and not on a beach, in a forrest or on the ocean with the whales..
try to relate your subject matter to the children of today that can make the difference.. showcase them the common visuals they may see so they can relate to the advert and it grabs their attention..
good luck..

Use other lifestyle elements to build the persona out... like clothes or electronics, etc.
