Do you navigate frame by frame based on the mouse xPos?? or yPos??
Or is there a smarter way?

Creative director want you to copy a good site or what?
; )
I'm thinking it's just a timeline movie clip that rewinds and fast forwards based on the location of the drag bar no?! nothing to do with x and y values...

Me = Creative Director + Art Director + Designer/Developer + Coffee Maker
Don't forget we are in 2010....
Yeah, would love to do something like that.
I can probably hack something with my AS3 skills, but was curious to find out more about it... maybe there's a library that would let you do that in half a line of code.- awesome; i'm a jack of all trades as well. Currently master of none... : (ideaist

I guess it's both, an embedded flv in a frame by freame timeline controled by mouseY.
if you take a look on Firebug you'll see the extenal loaded files are .swf

a video player with a flexible scrubber that can be moved from location to location. the scrubber's x or y position determines the time.

might not work with flv videos, it's probably a series of images.

my guess:
import video to timeline (so now it's frame based in flash)
convert to movie clipcreate button to control the mc
button on drag, compare new mouse xpos with previous - which controls timeline of the frame-based video, next frame/previous frame
but i'm usually wrong about these things.

actually it's done in real time.
depending on where your mouse is, that information is relayed to a left and right arrow that lights up in the studio, then, if it's right the guy jumps to the right and back depending.
i heard two people already died from people moving their mouse too fast.

I hade done something similar with papervision; timeline that controls an animation. It was a nightmare to execute and i'm still clueless as to how I sort of pulled it off > http://bit.ly/9OouQ8
The box at the beginning sucks, can't argue there.
