The going rate for a stolen bike, any quality/type/size, via the "Oxy-kids merchants", is $20-25 - bike theft is a huge business in my neck of the woods. Regardless, sorry for your loss and I hope you can get past this unnecessary bullshit.

Mine was stolen in my basement couple of years ago.
Basically i was always on my bike before i had a car.
As soon as i had a car i've left the bike on the side for a while.
One day i went to the basement, the door was closed but not locked.
Opened the door, everything was "ok" but still i was sure something was missing in there....Then one day, i just figured out. the bike was gone.
It took me 2 months before i realised that the missing thing was my lovely MBK barroudeur with grey tires.I had to do a summer job to pay it.
3 weeks ago i bought a CUBE AIM,and i love it.

::BUMP::
The thief that takes to teach you a lesson.
The envious thief who wants what you have.
The thief who pawns for money.A thief is a coward! Not for the actual act but because they do it behind your back.
You should hook up a battery to it and shock the shit out of a thief. Shame. In America it is treated with a slap on the hand in other countries your are dragged into the streets humiliated and beaten.
- i went to get a haircut when i was 15 and someone took my new dyno. worst feeling.74LEO

Police should catch bicycles thieves and then handcuff them to bicycle parking rails for 24 hours without toilet/food/water. Never mind human rights. They'll survive.
The Police should keep watch - and if any of their thieving buddies tries to cut them loose: catch them and also handcuff them to a bicycle parking rail for 24hours.
Meanwhile members of the public can throw rotten tomatoes, eggs and mouldy cabbages at them for $1 a go.
Cheaper costs than prison, more deterrent impact on would be thieves, gives the community a sense of justice and generates a revenue to fund the policing.

I've had 3 and a half bikes stolen in Chicago... I'd love to see bike thieves handcuffed to bike racks like this,... only one hand locked up for whoever stole the back half of my old Raleigh 3 speed....

I use this combo in LA, but I know peeps in NY and SF use two u locks on their bikes.

But the main concern is leaving your bike unattended. I rarely leave my bike out at a bar or foodie spot without being a few feet away from it or while it's within site. I see people check it out all the time, but so far so good.
