I hitchhiked to the beach for the day and then back last summer. Its not far but there's no transit and I was bored and alone and lots of drivers are used to picking people up on the way to the beach so I smoked lots and packed some beers and chilled.

Never done it, never would. We have peopel go missing in Australia. Usually tourists because they hitchhike.

Had a lot of fun hitchhiking over the years, been places I never would have gone to otherwise, met hundreds of amazing people. been to weddings, lost places, been given countless places to stay, made some friends for life. I've hitched in over 30 countries and not had any big problems, sure there are some crazy people out there, but you have to keep things in perspective. Last time I hitched was in Burma, not the best place in the world to do it, but it worked....eventually.

I hitch hiked from LA to SF one time. Got picked up by a minister who had been in jail for murdering some one. He was very friendly.

i hitch hiked from Guatemala to Panama two years ago, most amazing experience of my life. riding in the back of pickup trucks for 125 miles down dirt roads during the wet season is not recommended though.

Everything after my LA trip has been easy... I learned a lot from that. I expect to start traveling again once my last application is in this Thursday...

I lived in a rural and hitchhiked most of my teens. I also hitchhiked Europe.
I was picked up by all sorts of people. Only one guy in France was a bit wired. He kept saying he wanted to kill himself and that he wanted to have sex with us. Happy to get out of that one.
Night Hitchhiking was a bit more nerve racking. I once got stuck on the outskirts of Sudbury Ontario in the middle of the night.
When I did get a car I picked up hitchhikers from time to time. I once picked up a guy in Northern Ontario that was trying to get back to Toronto. He had never been out of the city and he and his buddy wanted to go to B.C.
They decided to drop Acid and get bus tickets. When they ran out of drugs somewhere in Manitoba they started getting pretty pissed off at each other. They did not realize that BC was another 2-3 days from where they were. The guy I picked up was kicked of the bus in the middle of nowhere.
It was May and if anyone has ever dealt with black flies you will know what I am talking about when he said he just started running. He ended up throwing away all his stuff to try and get away from these things.
When I picked him up he had no money, no cloths, no food and all he wanted to do was get back!

one time i was coming out of a grocery store and was approach by an old man asking for a ride to his home which was close by. At the time I was so happy because I closed a great project and I was feeling so grateful that I thought, why not give this guy a ride... In conclusion I was sexually molested and I literally kick his ass out of my truck on the side of the street, I did took his groceries I got to admit he had good taste for wine and cheese....

When I was 17, I was meant to be at a girlfriends place but hitchhiked with 2 guy friends and a case of bear to a party. Only problem was the person who picked us up was a friend of my mum's and dobbed us in.
