herrorist: a hero to some, a terrorist to many.

Shoulda found a better way of getting attention than endangering innocent people. For example, he could've told his family to take a nice vacation then promptly set his own house on fire while shooting $15k worth of fireworks into the sky and declaring his manifesto or whatever... I don't know.
- xcreonx0
He killed an innocent person. I can't believe you would suggest he is a hero. Everyone here in Austin is affected.
- At least 30% so far thinks he was a hero.********
- the stepfather of Mr. Stack's wife. Cook, who lives in Oklahoma, said Stack's intent was to damage the government office, "not to kill people."********
- ...not to kill people********
- Then he should have done it at night when no one was working. He is a terrorist, either way.luckyorphan

I wonder if he insured the house beforehand.
does anyone know what hotel his wife stayed in before coming back home to find the house burned to the ground?
- acescence0
he should have taken out some politicians, that would have been a public service.
- lvl_130
the fact that he put his life up with no regard to others in the building that he drove the plane into makes him a failure. i don't give a flying fuck about his position. no sane person would even think about blindly taking out another human being out of existence. it just makes no sense.

I'm still amazed that only one person was killed.
- ukit0
In a general sense, isn't what he did exactly the same as what the Al Queda plane bombers did? What's the difference?
- ismith0
I guess the only difference is ideological, in that he wanted to do shit to the government so they'd stop fucking up and get better or whatever whereas Al Queda just wants our government to fucking die. The action is the same but each is presumably seeking a different result.
- ukit0
I don't know if the difference is even that clear. I mean true Al Queda may be religious fanatics and whatnot, but it's not like they wake up one day and decide blow themselves up for the hell of it. They are reacting to decades of actions by America and other Western countries and feeling powerless to stop it. And they both took exactly the same action, committing suicide while flying a plane into a large financial center.
- no, but they recruit young people who wake up feeling desperate and angry. Difference?monkeyshine
- ismith0
I think the problem with this guy (and others who take similar actions) is that they embody their hatred... this ultimately contradicts what they believed in the first place, until they make amendments to their belief to justify such a "final act". Some might argue that's necessary ("greater good") but whether you believe that or not, they are definitely coming from a different direction than Al Queda et al. Think of it as an X... the are starting at two different spaces, and in the middle meet at the same kind of event. Later they end up just as far apart as they started but on opposite sides. Basically the ideology is different, they meet at the same action, but the end result is inevitably different. Now that doesn't mean that oh he's a hero he changed the world and fixed America by showing us we're all dumbasses– not at all. But you have to admit that generally people aren't reacting to it the same as a foreign terrorist attack. Hell, I think I saw about 15 minutes of coverage today, the rest was all Tiger Woods, and the same yesterday. Because of who he is he's automatically classified as either insane or revolutionary.
- ismith0
And I just want to add that I fully support revolution when the people think it is necessary, but I do not believe that it has to be violent at all– an unfortunate assumption made by all too many people on both ends of any so-called revolution.
- ismith0
ugh I can hardly type what I'm trying to say. It's far too late, I'll be going to sleep now... later
- GeorgesII0
We can arguee his motivations ad nauseum but the truth is this is only the first, you better prepare yourself for the others.
In India cultivator are killing themselves in mass because they get screwed my Monsanto and they see suicide as the only way out. His gest was one of despair, he wanted to make a statement and he succeeded.
now we can equate him to a terrorist or a hero or any word we want to, but it will only be a play of semantic.
the thing is that this guy is a resonator and normally when things like this happens, other only follow.

In death a member of project Mayhem has a name,
his name is Joe Stacks, his name is Joe Stacks, his name is Joe Stacks, (repeat x times)

Your Everyday Teabagger Terrorist, period.
- SteveJobs0
i think his message was overshadowed a bit too much by his poor, unoriginal approach. too many people associate flying planes into buildings with terrorism, and add the fact that an innocent life was taken and there isn't much left but an old, frustrated, irrational man seeking revenge.
in addition, the guy had horrible writing skills. conveying his point required an audience with a near-autistic attention span. this is no bueno when trying to rally those who would support your cause or ideals.

Very few people give their lives to fight the system. Those that do have been honored in American wars. They died for something they truly believed in as did Joe Stacks III. However, he is not getting the respect that he should deserve. You have to be somewhat crazy to risk your life for a cause. That's the thinking from anyone who values their own life as did Joe.
But Stacks wasn't just a complainer. He actually went to his congress and politicians. Stacks developed systems his entire career and in his world, if something doesn't work, you simply fix it. This was his only fix. How many people do you know have battled against the IRS and won? Some have, not many have won. Joe Stacks III hoped to open doors for people who has been sleeping and brainwashed for a very long time now.
