your computer realizes it's fat tuesday and wanted to impress you with a mardi gras themed desktop. don't disappoint your computer. get wasted at once and show us ur boobs kid!

How old is it? I'd be calling Apple even if out of warranty and see if they can at least help diagnose to isolate the problem a bit (graphics card, connectors to the display?) Seems like it must be more than just the display itself if there are kernel panics?

Stripes would indicate some sort of video card issue.
Looks like I have the same MBPro model as you.
Does yours have the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT?If so, check this out: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS23…
May be entitled to a free repair/replacement - Mine had to be fixed late last summer.

I had the same thing... with me it was a factory mistake from apple. It was a certain range of mb's that had the issue .. my motherboard was replaced.

bump, at the apple store and i got it replaced. awesome!

For future reference, that's a kernel panic. Usually RAM-based.

The screen in mine just died. Doesn't work with an external LCD either. I can hook it up as a firewire drive, so it is not dead. Looks like it's the nvidia thing. My computer is one of the models affected on the list.
- I am using it via VNC sharing right now, looks like only video is affected.raf

yeah it looks like the graphics card. mine just got replaced for free 2 weeks ago, same crap. is there a weird pattern to it, v's like a herringbone? either way it does the kernal panic and shuts down. they have to replace the whole logic board because the card is part of the logic board. don't let them charge you for it.
- ha! had exactly the same problem here... only they build in a broken motherboard and had to replace it againpressplay

I connected to my computer via VNC desktop sharing and it reports the video card as Intel X3100, just as described in this article:

It's the nvidia thing in my case, I get the logic board replaced for free. The relief almost makes me forget I lost half a night trying to figure out what was wrong and half a day to get at my cost to the Apple service.
