The 60-year-old novelist predicted Britain could be engulfed by a 'civil war' between the old and young if it did not tackle its ageing population.'How is society going to support this silver tsunami?' he asked in an interview with the Sunday Times.
'There'll be a population of demented very old people, like an invasion of terrible immigrants, stinking out the restaurants and cafes and shops.
'I can imagine a sort of civil war between the old and the young in ten or 15 years' time.'
Amis, a grandfather, added: 'There should be a booth on every corner where you could get a martini and a medal.'

I just despise the spread of mis-information Georges. It's a dangerous and irresponsible pastime which, whilst you're in here criticising it, you personally participate in it.
I don't know if I loath that more than the obvious hypocrisy of it all.
It's not personal. I hate everyone who does it.

the truth is though loads of people are dying horribly and maybe there is no time to be complacent.
i mean, the fact that up to 5000 children die EVERY day because they can't access clean water is pretty fucked and in no doubt a horrible way to die.
why do we let that to continue? because we are assholes, that's why.

The scary thing is not that we are about to die, horribly or otherwise. People are living longer en mass. There are going to be more old people than ever before.
The scary thing is that we will not die horribly for ages. Horribly isn't getting eaten alive or shredded by a nail bomb, horribly is senile dementia in a home staffed by fat 40something gerontophiliacs, who spend all day bumming us and selling our drugs. It's the Colostomy bags and false teeth sold to us by nubile and unatainable youth, its the rancid bingo halls and McCafe lunches, the lost memories and having to put up with you mates telling you that joke for the 2000th time.
Fuck me Al Queda, bring it.

@ lukus_W Not sure. I've always respected the bloke - not so much some of his publications. He has a fiduciary responsibility to his shareholders so would be very difficult to sack him when he is delivering such good returns for the shareholders so he would have to use means such as this to make a point. It's a subtle way of undermining Ailes to a point where he could have cause to fire him.
- Yeah, maybe you're right - but I think journalists have a huge responsibility - those in charge even more so .. the buck has to stop somewhere.lukus_W
- top somewhere.lukus_W
- Making a statement that shows personal distaste is all very well, but - if it doesn't change anything, the only effect is personal vindication.lukus_W

Interesting statement put out by Rupert Murdoch's son-in-law - “I am by no means alone within the family or the company in being ashamed and sickened by Roger Ailes’s horrendous and sustained disregard of the journalistic standards that News Corporation, its founder and every other global media business aspires to,” said Matthew Freud, who is married to Ms. Murdoch and whom PR Week magazine says is the most influential public relations executive in London.
Many believe that the statement was approved by the Murdoch family and Rupert in particular. Although Ruper Murdoch publicly backs Ailes and love the profits he generates, it's pretty clear that the family don't like the general direction Fox is heading in.
- Does that make you more sympathetic of Murdoch though? It makes me dislike him even more.lukus_W
