Anybody else having trouble with Snow Leopard and permissions? Can't seem to copy anything to a windows based server.
I get an 'Error code -36' or file 'already in use'. It'll copy the primary folder, overwriting the current one, but none of the sub directories or its contents.
Tis a bit scary. It's a Mac finder bug apparently.
Sound familiar to any folks here?
you're not using characters in filenames that are illegal in windows, are you?
More likely to be a problem on the windows end, is your user on the window server set up correctly
i feel your pain, i have a 1TB NAS system chock full of files and folders I cannae delete
This recent thread http://discussions.apple.com/thr… contains lots of theories including claims of a 10.6.2 Finder bug
This http://discussions.apple.com/thr… has a workaround based on ensuring the target has read/write permission and a suggestion (allegedly from apple) to repair permissions on your mac disk then reboot
Caveat, I have not read through both support threads but there is plenty of discussion there.
You say "It'll copy the primary folder", I assume you mean create. Does that folder (on Windows) have read/write permission for all? If not then that may be the problem, in this case adjust the permissions and try again. What is the destination file system, FAT, NTFS, other?
Lots of Finder bugs in 10.6 that I've encountered. Wouldn't be surprised if that is the cause... have you tried again after a restart?
dont just move to snow leopard yet!
(notice I didn't use the word upgrade)
Thanks for the info. Seems like a common problem with 10.6. I'm reduced to working locally for now until this is resolved. What a pain in the arse.
pu...i thought of upgrading. now i wont. thanks.
hmm, this what you get for using a windows server!
granted i know snow leopard should handle it fine but both technologies should be considered.
i recommend using a linux server instead. its free, reliable and setting one up yourself is good experience to have if you are a web developer.
Temp fix for now maybe try using Path Finder or the Terminal
