Travel vest/jacket

Howdy... with the crazy restrictions put into place for travel into the US (and I'm betting it will expand) I'm considering a travel jacket/vest in lieu of carry-on. Doesn't cover a laptop, but I think there are ways, currently, to allow transport for that type of fragile device.
Opinions/experience appreciated.

You're still allowed carry on as far as I know... maybe only 1 now?
The new restrictions seem to mostly affect people coming into the US from other countries.- from Canada to the US it is no carry-on - see next post********

"U.S.A. bound passengers are permitted zero carry-on bags effective immediately and lasting for several days. Passengers travelling within Canada are still permitted two carry-on bags (although to make the screening process most efficient, fewer carry-on items is preferred).
Carry-on bag means items to which a passenger has access to during a flight, but does NOT include personal items such as medication or medical devices, small purses, cameras, coats, items for care of infants, laptop computers, crutches, canes, walkers, containers carrying life sustaining items, a special needs item, musical instruments, or diplomatic or consular bags."- i'll call tomorrow morning to double check with them and maybe i'll let you guys know if i remember topango

yeah sounds like you have to check-in the computer bag. not good, not good at all. they will break it. i would bet on it.
