Shaving with olive oil

Yes; I do when I shave (though I'm mostly bebearded).
I'm fairly sure people throughout most of history have had to get away with using non synthesised or refined petroleum-based products when they shave because... y'know.. they didn't exist.

I shaved with a razor instead of a beard trimmer for the first time in 6 months yesterday. I look 10 years younger. Beards are so 2009.

I always tear my neck up when I shave. Even with a fresh blade. And I use shaving cream.
Anyone know why this may be?

- Not so sure you can rule in terms of absolutes - hair grain differs between people. I think. Know yourself.detritus
- soften the hair properly, shave with the grain, don't apply excessive pressure, be prepared to go over it twice or morecomicsans
- I go from top to bottom. But I think the grain changes on my neck, starts going towards the back. hahFrosty_spl

Frosty, don't use shaving cream use a gel instead (I use King of Shaves) it lubricates better than cream in my experience and do it straight out of/or in the shower after spraying almost uncomfortably hot water on it for a while. Used to get really irritated after till I started doing it that way and using gel.

OK, so as far as olive oil goes its no better or worse than any other shaving medium. It does have the fruity olive oil aroma too which I believe I have masked with my Kenneth Cole aftershave.

I prefer a clean shave with some tunafish oil.

I recommend using butter or bacon grease instead of olive oil. It tastes better also.
