A little info before you animals hack me to bits. I needed to come up with a url for my portfolio (which is being worked on) and ruby dreams came to me. Instead of sitting around and trying to come up with something better, I ran with it. I grabbed rbydrms.com and now want to come up with something to identify it.
Here's a little meaning I found online (i think this is why it came to me)
"Seeing a ruby in your dream, symbolizes passion, vitality and sexual desire. Seeing ruby slippers in your dream, represents your path to spiritual enlightenment. You need to venture onto a journey in order to find who you are as a person.
Dreaming of rubies is often a dream of wealth, power, and energy. The ruby is viewed as the crystal of leadership and kings.
The feelings, sympathies, love, arising from the spirit, rather than material values. The ability to reach out and contact others.
To dream of a ruby, foretells you will be lucky in speculations of business or love.
Ruby - May represent passion;love or anger. May symbolize your true self."
So really it would only be something i use on my site as well as business cards. Alright now, beat me up.

Really, no one? OK fine, I'll state the obvious:
It's not a good name for a web design portfolio.
- And the abbreviation makes it worse...ukit
- not web, i hate web. mostly print.capn_ron
- Either way man, I don't think it's too good;)ukit
- Let me put it this way, all other things being equal, if I was the client it's possible the name alone would prevent me from hiring youukit
- hiring youukit
- no worries. i've got a thick skin.

capn_ron i have a really good idea, it requires buying another domain

ukit is right. it isn't a good name.
you may have a thick skin, but isn't it better to have a thick wallet?
- ukit0
Just choose a random series of letters and pretend its an acronym for something.

all joking aside ruby dreams is a horrible name and at best would be a RoR blog. sounds so feminine too, no offense _sal_ and the ruby is my birthstone, never linked it. and your description up there sounds a little how you say... WHOREoscopish
- i hear ay, but i could wait years before coming up with something else.capn_ron

You also have thick type. I think rubies are interesting (rarely thought of them in any design context though), but the dream part seems best kept private. Something hyper-geometric (not necessarily "crystalline," though definitely incorporating sharp edges and deliberate angles) and modern. No scanner or idea of a typeface, but I sketched it up super quick...

I don't think its a good idea for designers to make up names for their sites. I say stand by your name and make something of it. You are not a company-youre one person, and the name you'v chosen is problematic. All that aside your rationale is not reflected in the art. All that jibbajabba about sex, power, desire, inner this & that may or may not be relevant to your site, but even if it is these graphics don't reflect one bit of it. The tone should be more serious, more premium, and more sexy. What you have here isn't terrible executionally, but its fluffy and sweet and doesn't reflect power or desire or any of that stuff.

actually, isn't that ukit's dad's stage name?
