saving as pdf always helps.
300mb? Is he printing a billboard?
- haha, nope no billboard just a full color envelop with a lot of images. a patchwork ;)keiTai

- perfectly edible. cooking is best..janne76

- Saving as a PDF only helps because it compresses into JPEGs. Not really a workaround.monospaced

300 mb is not unheard of by any means, I have complex layered ad artwork files which are 500mb or over

Well the ps file might be large but saving it off as a flattened tiff with LZW compression will knock it right down, when sending it off to print.

There is no average photoshop file size. It all depends on dimensions, number of channels (colorspace), number of layers, smart objects, smart filters, and on and on...

300mb for an envelope? Crazy talk...
Last year I designed a full color CMYK + spot varnish envelope that was 46mb. You are obviously setting-up and or preparing your file wrong.

meh... 300mb is peanuts. cry me a river.

Sorry this is a lame question.
the filesize and the speed depends on:File dimensions
DPI setup
Colorspace (cmyk)
Number of layers
Text objects
Smartobjects (3d vector etc)Using smart objects can speed up ps.
Using to many text objects can slow down your ps.
that's the way it goes.I'm working sometimes with large files (gb+), and waiting for the machine for 15-20 minutes to save the file, but the transmissions and object editing is fast...playing games can be really helpful :) (at now i have a little helicopter to play with :)

Shoot, I get stuff from clients all the time at 72 dpi . . . Funny how it doesn't look that good in print . . .
