Just launched a site/platform that features videos from various platforms as well as allows users to save videos to their pages.
We are a two person team that want to create something useful.
A users page:
http://vidque.com/user/ilovetypo…I am looking for constructive criticism & feedback on the design , functions and features of the site. Curious what you think and what you would add or change?
Do you find it useful now?
Thanks for taking the time.

Looks nice. But I am missing a nude section..

Interesting concept. Can you elaborate a bit on why you two feel that this site is necessary, and handles something that YouTube's (or other video sites') favorite and friends settings don't?

Not bad - but like luckyorphan said, there's not much unique about it. Currently it's delivering more interesting results, I'm guessing because you and your friends are the ones using it, but if everyone used your site, wouldn't the aggregated videos be the exact same as YouTube has?
Maybe what you need are more specific categories. Instead of just music, indie rock, jazz, dubstep, etc. That would make it a site worth coming back to.
- Or rather, the ability to create and edit the categories you would like to see?luckyorphan

Thank you.
We find that all these others sites YouTube , Vimeo etc have an enormous amount of content that doesn't seem to be filtered. The content on the public listing is filtered depending on various factors.
We wanted a site that would put all the platforms on the same playing field. Currently we support YouTube, Vimeo, Ted and Blip (all to come eventually).
I personally thing that the concept of "Like this video" vs "Save a video" really distinguishes quality from the not so quality. On VidQue you can save videos which means you really need to associate yourself to the content you are saving .
When you signup you have a "feed" of your own curated content depending on the users you follow. Which is a feature that can only work if all video platforms are present on one system.

ukit: interseting concept, although because a lot of videos are pulled from various sources the categories are usually broken. Not to mention a lot of users uploading these videos usually get these categories wrong. The question becomes, do we allow users to create subcategories (which could be fake) or do we create a huge list of sub categories within each category. It all becomes problematic.

Yeah, dunno. By the way, where did you find the guy to do the voice over on your video? It sounded really professional.
- sounds a bit like clive james maybe? similar inflection / pronunciation i think********

I'll always celebrate anyone trying to do something new...relatively speaking.
I'm very much in a 'wait-and-see' mode on this. It's an interesting start, but VidQue will probably teeter on a fulcrum between being a scrappy improvement to the industry leader, or an irrelevant also-ran.
All in all, the more customization you allow your users to have, the sticker yer site will be.
Good luck.

We found the voice actor on voices.com (great reasource).
luckyorphan hopefully will prove you wrong in the long run. It is not a type of service that you see yourself using?

@Nizm,
If you had to sum up what your site is about in one sentence, what would you say?

- "The wonderful world of VidQue in 2 minutes"?
I'm already thinking about just clicking away.- YouTube has the tagline "Broadcast yourself", which does a pretty good job of explaining what they do. You have "Videos Worth Watching", which is what your sources (YouTube, Vimeo etc) have too, as well as your competitors. So what's your USP? Say it up front. Don't make me watch a sodding 2 minute video - who do you think you are?!
- Your brand is VidQue, yet your logo says VIDQUE. Why?
- Aside from the hellish 2 minute intro video requirement - the overall design feels corporate and bland - it doesn't feel at all consumer-oriented. Frankly, if you weren't asking, I don't think I'd've bothered going any further index page.
- So I've clicked on something. Is it just me, or is it slower viewing content through your interface?
- K, I'm done. I watched a video. Woop. Though you have reminded me to go have a flick through TED.

^ Very good notes here from detritus.
One thought though is that it isn't too out of the question, however, for a logotype to go all caps on a name that isn't. See Pepsi, for instance:
http://images.google.com/imgres?…- Maybe -but in English, ALL names are initial-capped. The problem here is the compounding of the 2 words.detritus
- it's called CamelCase********
- Sure thing, but there's no real rule for this.luckyorphan
