really though, go to your blank pages, add one period set in Myriad Pro 5pt, colour 1% black. Magic!
and good luck with the 50 states....
- Thanks for the good wishes.hubb7designs
- hubb, I'm serious, this way your blank pages won't be blank anymore, although nothing will be printed on them. Not a joke.rkrd

heres my tip of the day: only take on work you are qualified to do.
If you want our opinions on a logo, cool. post em. Seems a bit much to ask people people to essentially lend you their professional expertise for a job you are getting payed for.

@Hubb
Make sure to proof the booklet from the printer. Have them create a functional mockup / prototype and double-check the shit out of it. Don't just rely on digital files.

not to be a dick... but i still have my student loans hangin over my head, ya know. these are the basics you need to know before you can call yourself a designer, and most people have taken the necessary steps to acquire that knowledge.
- not true. that's the problem with design industry.rkrd
- well, most people wont get hired at an agency or studio without an appropriate diploma.baseline_shift
- it's the portfolio that gets you in agencies. but I was talking about freelacers like hubb...rkrd
- one could argue that it's nearly impossible to have a great portfolio without prior education, unless you are paul rand incarnation.rkrd

Even just do some reading to get some basics down.

Just give me the work. I'll lay out all the books, imposition them correctly and get paid accordingly. Hell, I'll even cut you a 20% finder's fee for your trouble.
- best advice Ive read so faridentity
- Would you do it for $150?hubb7designs
- FUCK NO.duckofrubber
- Hahaha, awesome.brains
- $150?!?!?! ARE YOU FUCKIN SERIOUS!!!!!?????iheartfun
- I wasted more than $150 of billable time just writing these comments!ETM

@baseline... I know what you are saying, and believe me I always tell people that in learning things as I go. I'm working with a client that has his own set of clients. He goes out to get the work/jobs and bring me in when he needs my help cause he doesn't know much about design at all.
And each time he ask if I can do a project, I'm completely honest with him that it's my first time trying something like this, but I have usually been able to figure it out.
If part of my figuring things out is coming to QBN for help, I don't see that as such a bad thing. Many people on QBN have been GREATLY! helpful to me, and I have already learned so much here. If it offends you that people are offering free help, I'm sorry about that, but there isn't much I can do about it.

Hubb, you're doing all these books for $150‽‽‽ Oh, HELL no.
- That's like, $3 a book! That's how much this note cost me to type!duckofrubber
- baseline_shift0
its cool, im not offended. And i wasnt gonna chime in to this thread until i read you had 50 books to do.
but, honestly, what would you have done without QBN? Ask at other design forums? At what point do you actually get professional design training?
I mean, a plumber doesn't come over, look at a leaky sink, then hop on the internet and figure out why its leaking and how to fix it.
- ETM0
I didn't spend 3 hours online and $29.95 to get my design degree, printed on my dot matrix no less, just to hand out free advice!!!
- hubb7designs0
@baseline... you are completely correct. And I would really like to have the ability/time to go for professional training. But working full time and supporting a family, I just haven't figured out how to make that work for me just yet. So I'm doing what I can to get educated, reading books, following tutorials and reading and watching QBN post. I spend a lot of time check out all the QBNers websites and work. That's why I'm really happy to be here and learn from people who have such a high skill level.
When I grow up I wanna be like QBNers! haha
- Dude charging $150 for a job of that size will not support your family. Is it worth the time you won't be spending with them?ETM
- well, at least you have a pretty good attitude about it. But honestly, at this level, your time is better spent learning basics as apposed to taking on jobs.baseline_shift
- basics as apposed to taking on jobs.baseline_shift
- maybe he's really fast and has other jobs lined up already? $150 per hour is not that badrkrd
- He started the thread like 5 hours ago already.ETM

i keep posting his website, then deleting it before pressing broadcast. i mean, i dont wanna jump on this band wagon of hating but dude, really?
- ********0
im sorry id delete that if possible.
each to their own.
- hubb7designs0
No worries... *bigtrick is right.... I don't mind the "bashings"
And everyone is also right that $150 wont support a family. That's why I also work full time for a communications company.
And I also have several projects going at one time, and I do try to work as quickly as possible to get things completed and paid.
I look at it as growing pains, and paying my dues. I know that I will continue to push myself to learn more, and some day I will have a design firm of my own and a strong team of designers, photographers, videographers etc.
I've set a goal for myself, and I'm not going to stop no matter what obstacles I have to get through.
Right now my biggest obstacle is lack of knowledge, and the lack of time to gain that knowledge. But persistence is key :-)
