Im looking to buy a new camera. Nothing super serious- Id love a 5D Mark II of course but im talking under or very near the 500 euro mark here. I was quite keen on the Canon G11, but I want something that can shoot HD video. Thinking about the Olympus PEN , it has depth of field, which Id love, and HD, but its a bit pricey. Anyone recommend a camera which wont break my bank, has decent HD video and has sweet ass lense?
Ive always been a canon fan, I love my lil IXUS, but I want more!!!

Have you checked out that Panasonic LX3? Might have a different model number over there but it is a small camera with a nice Leica lens. Goes for about $500 over here. Last I looked, that is about 350 Euros, right?
- I have one and love it. suits me fine. I have no desire to lug around a bowling bag of camera shit.DrBombay

aaah cool, thanks ill have a look, thats 336 euro. sounds good.
Ive always been a bit wary of the panasonics though. I know the lenses are good but are the rest of the parts? I mean I know Im not looking for a work horse or anything but still want it to last...

great, thanks, this sold it for me
"No, what's so impressive about the LX3 is that Panasonic has actually produced a camera aimed at photographers, not one designed by a marketing department."that site just fucked up my eyes tho jesus!

I bought a Canon 500D a couple of months ago, and I'm happy with it.
It shoots HD video and it does all the things you would expect a camera to do.

do not forget to remove the lens cap. that's good advice.

Been looking for a high quality compact lately. I just messed around with an EP-1 and a GF1 today at a shop and they're not as small / portable as I thought they would be. I'm thinking that for half the price I can get a low end Canon and throw a 28mm prime on it. Better high iso too.
- Any DSLR + a prime lens = pretty good image qualityvaxorcist
