Yo 303... id say go for it.... quite the bang for the buck.
I've used mac minis in several installations, touchscreen projects, projections.. good little machines.
Upgrading is where you get hurt... but for the price cant beat it

The fastest 4 core iMac came in with some of the fastest scores, beating out the Mac Pros in most areas.
- It's priced between the two machines, but it comes with a 27" Apple LED display.monospaced
- Bought the new 27" i7 last week, awesome screen, running 2 linux servers on it.comicsans

I don't consider iMac. I already have Dell LCD screen and HP laptop connected. I am looking for something that is portable.

LOL. If you want portable, why the hell are you talking about a Mac mini?

you can get refurbished MBP for a price of high-spec macbook.

I gather when you say portable, you mean you want to grab the computer and take it with you to your folks' place for Christmas – not work at airports or present to clients?
The mini could do, but it is a bit underpowered. I just moved from a 2.0 MacBook to a 2.4 MBP and while the improvement is noticeable, it still could use just a tad more power.
Open a few dhtml or flash-heavy tabs in FF (ie. youtube) and it starts choking a bit.You can try my MB 2.0 for a day or two before I sell it, to get an idea of how much processor power you need, but you need to walk up the hill to my place to pick it up :)
