If your goal is to work and shred when the snow falls then move to Whistler, Squamish or Pemberton and freelance. None of the agencies in the city are going to let you come in late just to make some turns.
- Who's got the culture that's about shreding both?goodidealuke
- I can think of countless beach side design shops that shut up shop when the surfs cranking.goodidealuke
- These aren't beach side shops.2cents

Why the hate-on for Canada Neue? I won't argue with your assessment of the Canadian design industry, but there's more to life than grid-systems and a portfolio. I sure as shit wouldn't move someplace simply because I might get to work at an "innovative" shop. In my experience, the "innovative" shops are often populated with wankers.

listen mate, to each his own, for me, it was a waste of time and I couldn't get out of the country fast enough... it's the most conservative and backwards graphic design culture I've yet to experience.. still mostly ruled by dinosaurs like paprika [and that's in the best cases] and sadly more influenced by America than Europe... [but of course, Canadian's hate to admit how influenced or under America's thumb they really are]
but yeah, suppose it's great for the work-life balance, but if you really want that, you can get that anywhere...
- not to say that it's not getting better, I'm sure it is.. there must be loads of new 1-3 person studios doing good workneue75_bold
- and once again, it just wasn't right for me personally, culturally or career-wise..neue75_bold
- anyone who enjoys it, rock on, all the best to you..neue75_bold

Hey Neue... I think most people say the same thing about the country they grow up and grow tired in. It's so easy to travel these days there's no reason to hate on a place, if you don't like it leave. I feel the same about New Zealand in many ways, but it's home.
- spot on... to a degree, but I'm still young enough that my career is first and I need to look a city from that prespectiveneue75_bold
- first and foremost... so if I compare places to work, I've got 5 in Melbourne vs 1 in toronto that would better meneue75_bold
- which I do find fascinating given both cities/countries are roughly the same age and come from the same origins..neue75_bold
- big difference is what's below each country I suppose...neue75_bold
- Gotta shop around mategoodidealuke
- shop what around? has nothing to do with shops bro, has everything to do with demand...neue75_bold
- Careers are so 90's. Depends on what's important to each person.
Work that's fun is where it's at for me.goodidealuke - yes, that is a very responsible attitude... it is all about you, isn't it, really...neue75_bold
- Shop around? Depends how good you are. I think the general vibe i'm getting from you is that your quite defensive. Probably pointless carrying on this thread with you in it.goodidealuke
- oh ffs dude, I'm just telling you how it is...neue75_bold
- If I'm being defensive it's for graphic design in general and honestly, we have enough part-timers how don't "get it" alreadyneue75_bold
- like i said your being defensivegoodidealuke
