Ahahahaha.... step ins.... nice.

When i first started riding step-ins were used for rental boards. i never liked them much. I like the feeling of wrenching down as hard or as lightly as I see fit. Feels like I have more control over my set-up.
Straps and toe-caps all the way,

Also, it really limits you on your boot selection. In my opinion boots are the most important part of your set-up. If your feet are happy you ride better.

step ins are shit.

^ I agree.
They feel less safe somehow. Also the recesses that they click into in your boots will very quickly ice up and mean you have to spend time clearing them out.

I got these from Dogfunk.com and had them shipped to Point Roberts (I live 5min from the border). Not only did I save 125$ from the exchange rate the guy was nice enough not to charge me duty. I also got my 32 boots cheap.

They're sort of old fashioned. Because of the fact that they can release, they can result in injury more easily. If one leg releases you could twist your knee, if both release your board could run away if not leashed to you. Some people debate the need for highbacks, but straps are considered better for transferring power to the board and keeping it attached to you.
Burton tried their own system a few years ago only to discontinue them. So if Burton can't shovel their step-ins off then they must be shit.

I don't know anything about this but there's no way I'd fix my feet to a board. Doesn't it do horrible things like wrench your knee out of it's socket if you crash?

Step-ins... lolz.

People have had problems with these in the past, trying to get in and out when it's cold or lots of snow has accumulated on the baseplate.

I remember back in 94 Burton was trying to push a baseplate-less binding system, to give you more feel on the board ...
