Have you tried Suitcase Fusion 2 for mac?
Easy organization
* Font Vault provides centralized repository for easy access
* Easy back-up and restore
* Separates families into individual typefaces for precision and control
* Option to create multiple libraries within Font Vault for additional precision
* Font Vault is portable for easy transfer to other machines

no Font Manager will ever have any effect on the font menu in the Adobe or any other apps, if the font styles are not linked together *in* the font files themselves, the only thing you can do is to edit them with FontLab or similar tool.

if Suitcase had the same font view as Fontcase I'd be really happy sticking with Suitcase
