portland hands down

I live in Seattle and love it (except for times during the winter). However when I've been to Portland it's pretty sweet as well. Seattle feels a bit larger (but still small compared to NY or SF). I would rather be in Seattle than Portland overall. We have some good food, nice small international district. 3 hours away from Portland or Vancouver. And they are building a ton of new shit downtown, making it better. 6 years ago I may have said Portland, but now Seattle.

More like Nike vs. Microsoft...
No openings in any of the design firms in either cities.

Maybe spend some time in each city, check it out and make a decision. No one but you knows what you like.
When you get into each town, check with your QBN peeps to see what's going on.

If you are at all into the outdoors, Seattle is tough to beat (I live in Seattle). Kayaking (sound), surfing (west port), climbing (north cascades), skiing (cascades). The music scenes are comparable, up until you go to the Gorge. The San Juan islands are money in the summer (in case you need brownie points). Having BC so close is nice too (in case you need a new GF).

Seattle is prettier but we have lots of outdoor type things here too.
2 hours from Mt Hood, 2 hours to the coast, 1.5 hours to the Gorge.
Either or both are cool cities, just thank god her parents aren't in Ohio or Kansas.

How's the freelance market out there these days? I know the full time market is still pretty hurting.

I think Portland is more attractive. Seattle is magnificent, as far as surroundings (mountains, water) but the downtown is actually kind of bare. The neighborhoods surrounding Seattle are where its at, like Capital Hill, Fremont, Lower Queen Anne, Ballard.

OR has high unemployment, but Portland seems to be doing ok. Cost of living is great, compared to what it was when I was in Brooklyn. Younger vibe, lots of stuff going on art wise. Great beer.
