Doing some freelance work, and actually starting to make some money from it. I'd like to start using a contract with folks; any suggestions from people who've had experience with where to go to get good templates? Thanks in advance.

Purchase a copy of The Graphic Artists' Guild Handbook of Pricing and Ethical Guidelines - that helped my draw up a number of contracts. http://www.amazon.com/Graphic-Ar…

AIGA Standard Form of Agreement for Design Services is a good place to start. http://www.aiga.org/content.cfm/…
Focus on payment and cancellation terms in your contract, as well as issuance of copyrights and your ability to display the work. Most of your disagreements will come down to money, so you need to have that spelled out properly in your agreement.
Make sure you get 50% up front and always have the client sign the agreement. The only times I've ever been burned is when I've relaxed this policy.

I would definitely look into bulletfactory's suggestion. The AIGA's stuff is helpful but doesn't seem as definitive and detailed as The GAG's Handbook of Pricing and Ethical Guidelines - That book has everything. Sample invoices, contracts, licensing terms, pricing - everything.- I had this on my Christmas list a few years ago - best gift I received. It truly is the gift that keeps on giving.bulletfactory

This is good stuff, thank you. I'm more producing than creating--as in I'm hiring designers and developers for people who need a site. I'll looking into both the AIGA and GAG stuff tho, I'm sure that will get me started. I do appreciate it.

I just use a revised version of the designerstoolbox.com contract it was 5 bucks or something cheap and it's easily editable. One thing you should always add in there is if a client doesn't pay they're responsible for paying any legal fees in reclaiming the amount owed. It scares the shit out of non payers and honestly you might need that clause if you ever have a real loss.

Email me if you'd like to see one of my sample contracts (PDF). The terms & conditions I use are pretty thorough.
