Can anyone recommend a provider - I'm with vodaphone now and can't complain but I don't really use a lot of internet of my phone. I'm planning on getting a HTC Hero so internet and app usage will increase dramatically.

Does anyone have a service the love or hate?

Or maybe I just follow the herd and get an iPhone on O2.

also, what's the difference between buying something from Orange (For example) versus Carphone Warehouse or Phones4U or something like that?

    • Very little, as far as I can tell - though with CW, I think you 'own' the phone, so it comes unrestricted by provider whimdetritus

I'm greatly disappointed in all of you

They're all much of a muchness. I've been with Orange for 4 years and O2 for a long time before that and there's not much difference.

I'm due a new contract in Jan and I'm just going to take a look on a comparison site and pick one out of the hat.

You'll be able to find people who have great experiences with a provider and others who've had shit. They pretty much all price match anyway and you'll probably find if you go to someone like Carphone warehouse they might offer a bit more of a deal.

The only real limitation is getting an iFap but I think the O2 exclusive deal ends relatively soon so the other providers should be offering it at some point.

    Hey! Thanks Jamble.

Your response has reassured me that I am a valuable and cared for member of this community.

The rumor mill is running overtime talking about the Motorola Droid coming out next Friday in the states so maybe I'll wait and see if that happens over here as well.

Ans thanks for the info, that's what it seemed like - everyone is 35/mo or so for the same package deal. 3 is like 5 pound cheaper for some reason - probably because they saved money by not buying meaningful logo or name.

    • If things aren't urgent and you're as much of a geek as I suspect you might be, try and hold off for Nokia's Maemo.detritus
    • Oh, well, I shall certainly take that under consideration since there is no great hurry. thanksflashbender

A good deal at the moment is the 02 Simplicity plan. 600 any network mins, 1200 txts and a free bolt on (take the web bolt on for unlimited web access). £19 a month.

This is a sim only deal, but it gives you the flexibility of using any handset as long as its unlocked (iPhone, Android, HTC, N900 etc).

Obviously it might work out cheaper getting a phone on contract plus a monthly bill, but if your happy with your handset, give it a go. Been using it on an iPhone for 6 months now, its a great tariff.
