US office is funny in the way that Friends and King of Queens and every other comedy show is funny. UK office is completely unique and therefore far superiior. Maybe fewer laughs, but when you laugh it's a hearty evil cackle!

just an absolute lesson in comedy.... at about 4.30 when he starts to wrap it up and Tina Turner comes on... "come on....get into it..."..and jogs away.
Then when he comes back to tell her not to stop the music, the little feigned motion to the 'crowd' as if they're applauding, but not. Brutal. His character's hideous lack of self-awareness and transparency - he's a good guy who's just awful at what he's trying to do and everyone can see it, everything in that scene, every action, and line, and expression of all the people in it is set to clinically and brilliantly wind up the gnawing, awkward tension, little by little like a symphony, building, building, a little perfectly timed release here and there - e.g. '...foreword by Duncan Goodhew' he says of the little red book...just gives you a brief exhale before it continues to build and collapses like the worst car wreck as he runs out. Even then it's not done, and when he reappears the pathos almost physically painful, with that fucking hat and everything, my god.
I just don't see that level of artistry in the US version, as brilliantly talented as Steve Carrell is, there just isn't the depth of script and stagecraft in it.- lol @ 6:26, when he pulls his stomach in.detritus

UK version is perfect. The 2 seasons and then wrapping it up with a Special was perfect. David Brent finally redeems himself as a human being (sort of).
The US version is funny, but it's basically a good sitcom. Lovable characters and all. But the casting is predictable, ie. Jim and Pam are a cute, good-looking pair. And now they're married. Awww.
As an American, I enjoy Pam's big breasts, but if I had to pick a winner between the two, I'd say hands down, the UK version.
Plus Steve Carell will never top Ricky Gervais dance!

I will hold up my useless girly hand and say that, after discovering the office and faithfully torrenting them all from uk tv sites (I was living in the US), I cried like a little girl when they kissed, it was fucking awesome moment of tv, and I am honestly genuinely grateful to Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant for that moment. It still brings a tear to my eye watching it again or - this is ridiculous - when I write about it passionately on a forum..
