Well, well...
Here at the agency, we are have a serious discussion about Illy and Photoshop.
Let's say i print the word "yes" in black, from Photoshop and Illy. Is there a significative diference bettween the two?
Some of us says that text should always be print from Illy...
What's your opinion?
Thanks.

As long as the dpi is high I see no problem using photoshop?

if you dont pay attention, you will put the black in photoshop as 100% everywhere > will looks a bit blurry once printed.

If you choose 0M 0C 0Y 100K in both apps there should be no difference, correct?

big difference in file size though...

we are having diferent opinions about the quality...just that...

Images created in Photoshop are just a display of pixels (including any text you create). When you print a Photoshop image, you see the pixels created by Photoshop that are intended to make the text look smooth, but it's mainly a lot of smart guessing by Photoshop.
By contrast, when you use a program like Adobe Illustrator (or Microsoft Word, for that matter), the text isn't just pixels. The text in the image is backed by a mathematical description of how -exactly- to render that text -- whether to the screen or to the printer.

i still need a proof that type will be print with the same quality from each program at same DPI, same paper, same printer...
I read so many opinions, who's right?
I'll ask adobe...maybe...

The problem is once you set type in Photoshop and and save, lets say a tif, eps, or jpg, you stuck with this resolution. You lose the advantage or using postscript fonts, which is they can be resized without lose of quality. If you wanted to blow up you image, you will probably start losing quality.
For headline fonts, big bold stuff, there is no problem but . . . never ever set regular text in photoshop. Small type will print at whatever resolution you have the image in. If it is going to be professionally printed, your will be very disappointed. Printer print text at 1200 to 3600 dpi. That's because it's so fine. If at all possible I always set type in Illustrator, Quark, Indesign. Only large type I want to use Photoshop effects on will do in photoshop.
To let you know what a problems this was, when I was in printing, we wouldn't except jobs the text fonts were set in photoshop. Why? Because the customer will always be upset when he see's the final product and he will point his finger at use.

Six years ago, I designed our degree show publicity poster in the 'Shop. Got rebuked by the printer, so I re-did it in Illy. Fine. But there was an image that was a scan from a 6 x 4 in photograph that had to go up to A2. "Easy!" i thought, just change the image size right? As long as it's 300 DPI, it'll be fine.
Cue 1500 degree show invitations sent to the studio with a very blurry image on one side.
Ah, the joy of learning the hard way!

you just gave me a headache

Photoshop somehow alters the text for display. For instance, you can select these anti-aliasing modes: Strong, Crisp, etc...
I would argue that Illustrator would send the actual vector type to the printer while Photoshop would send its interpretation of the type.
