He's not an amateur. If he's making a profit out of it, she at least deserves a cut. I'd say he shouldn't be using his image if she doesn't want to. But in this case, I doubt she asked Obama permission. Thieves, one and all!!!

How do you feel about Roy Liechtenstein? His "Drowning Girl" was a reproduction of part of DC Comics's "Secret Hearts #83", and his "Whaam!" comes from All American Men of War #89.
Cano's work is a reproduction of images created by employees of the Wall Street Journal. OK, you're mad about it, but is what he did really wrong - and in what sense? Legal, ethical, artistic?

Legally, ethically, and artistically, it's very lame. That he pulls so much dosh doing it, while the original artist gets the back of the hand is lamer still.

i think the core issue here is being missed, and simply put is that the "plagiarizing" artist could've done this with flash instead of paraffin wax

Is this thread different then this article? I mean we are talking about two different images right?

None of these "Art" pieces should be considered Art from my point of view. They are merely images thrown into Photoshop or traced with dots...
No thought or concept behind it and they don't even look interesting to me.Is that what we call "Art" these days?
- +100 - Isn't that true. I could understand if they were their own images not AP.********

I always thought those portraits in the journal were engravings. Now I feel ripped off.
