Quick question if anyone happens to know.
I am currently going through a large amount of photos in various folders on my laptop's hard drive. I've sent a bunch of photos to the trash to delete.
How can I also make sure that these files get removed from Time Machine? I don't want backups of them, but don't know how to remove them.
Thanks!

Sorry, I don't use TM so I don't know for sure but if I understand correctly it just doesn't include those in your next backup, so they will eventually drift off into the ether as the backup version they're in gets older and eventually overwritten.

But it will take a while, like years depending on the size of your drive. If you really want to get rid of them now, you can go into the restore thing, and find the files, and select them, and choose 'Remove all backups of..' those items, which will include all earlier backed up versions.
But sounds like you have the problem that you don't know what you deleted?

Also, if you are just doing this because you are trying to save space (rather than needing particular stuff removed for security reasons), you're doing it wrong... get a larger drive and never worry about it.. thats the whole point of Time Machine.. drives are cheaper than your time trying to manage space usage and decide what to keep or not.

I've asked the same question to Apple. Basically you set a certain level of backups and Time Machine will eventually clear that space off your HD.

But that's not answering the question of 'how do I remove something'.. is it? If its for security purposes (you don't want the data there), then you need a solution now. If you are happy to wait, then its a non-issue (you shouldn't even be thinking about it).

you can exclude the map in time machine preferences it will delete the contents of time machine. If you just delete the map from your computer it will keep a back up of it.

I'll plug into this thread, I have a Time Capsule file copying question:
How do I copy files from TC to an AirDisk (an USB disk pluggged into TC) without routing them via computer?
Right now if I copy them, they go:TC -> computer -> TC -> AirDisk
It's absurdly slow and eats up computer resources.
There is an option to archive all files from TC directly to AirDisk, but I want to copy certain files only.

If you want items to be deleted from Time Machine:
go into the folder where the pictures/items where
then open up time machine
go back to when the photos where there
right click>delete all backups of "XXXX"
