The world's best-known computer peripheral interface once again receives a major revamp (following Wireless USB) to stay current with modern demands for connectivity bandwidth. Dubbed "SuperSpeed USB", USB 3.0 promises a major leap forward in transfer speeds and capability, while maintaining backwards compatibility with USB 2.0 devices.
Meh, I was hoping they'd go with the optic component from the off.
bye bye firewire.
it's not as if i'm cursing the slow speeds of my usb 2 and firewire devices, but faster can't be a bad thing i guess.
up to 4.8 Gbps?????????????
fuck this. i want Johnny Mnemonic shit.
when is this actually going down.... how do people still move so slowly from [dev and research] to [application] to [$]...?
but does it run linux?
wow. what's next? usb 4?
It's out right now. Western Digital has USB 3.0 drives but they're only for PC.
so would this be faster and more reliable than FW800 for doing audio/ video stuff?
Firewire is about 90 MBs.
USB 3 is around 5 Gigs per second (theoretically). So waaay faster.
Plus, I think you can plug it right into your USB 2.0 port as long as your OS supports it.
