i didn't go, but can guess that aside from some basic historical interest (original documents from the lubalin archive)--the 'new' work lacked any real relevance or context outside a poor homage to nostalgia, and probably felt quite dull compared to herb's natural, applied, typographic flair.

i was there and I wouldn't say it lacked relevance. Of course it wasn't as ground-breaking as Lubalin's original stuff, but I don't think that was the point. Some pieces were a stretch for sure, but there was some good stuff worth seeing. I'd like to go back sometime and look through the archives.
