This is what you get when you design by committee.
It cost £2.8million. Idiots.- are you serious? what a waste.pizzafire

Personally the jagged rounded corners at the top of the site (that look like they were styled with a knife and fork) are my fav bit.

I like the menu that makes no sense and jumps all over the shop.

http://bccdiy.com/ - check out this site put together in a bout 24 hours by 3form's Stef Lewandowski. Scraped all the data and had a site that was easier to use in no time and on no budget... really highlights the issue raises and now Bham has a wiki style website we can all build on... truly democratic eh - unlike the councils attempt.
2.8million of our money (well my and anyone else's money who is from B'ham)
- Looks like it was done in 24 hours on no budget.jamble
- yep that's what i said lol********
- take a look at the functionality and ignore the design - its a vanilla site proving a point - sigh, some people********
- You could take away the design of the other site and it wouldn't be as bad.jamble
- the other site is impossible to use... dont worry about it********
- point is one cost nothing and took 24hurs one cost 2.8 million and took 3 years.********
- would you be happy about that?********

This sort of thing makes me absolutely mad. That video shows that public sector staff do not know how to procure technology and that they think value for money means spending money.
We have similar problems where I am with public money being spent on insane projects (budget set for £1Million on branding the county currently out to tender). Excuse me? My issue is that the money goes to such a small pool of people. It keeps an agency in profit, it keeps some public sector staff busy, but it's not good use of millions of pounds of tax payers money.
I get so angry with this kind of thing - I've had to go out of my way to not get worked up by these stories by trying not read about them or view the figures involved.
I recently saw a £0.5M funded project which was basically a page with a video embedded in it. Great - I'm glad we paid for that. I'm glad my children have sacrificed their school books for your weak ass web interactive project which you managed to con someone at the local council that 1/2 a million was cheap.I need to go calm down - sorry. I've seen so much wasted money like this. . . . .

Damn, we need to get some jobs in like that hahahaha.

Birmingham Council were also responsible for this little balls up a while ago...

Too many people involved, all pushing their own agenda, it ends up a mess, Ive been involved in this kind of stuff before. The designers will have had the best intentions, and will have battered down so far that amend after amend you end up with something shit. The local Authority 'professionals' need commercial experience in my opinion, and need to work to a real budget.

public sector was always the holy grail of gravy trains in my old place. Unfortunately you had to be an Investor in People to get on the tender lists. LOL.
