i know that since school ... the written agreement and the 50% up front. But who's really doing that everytime?? Not me. I know i should.
The guy sent me an email this morning, here's a translation french to english:

You need to get 50% up-front and a signed agreement for every project, or you're going to end up in these situations. NEVER make an exception for new clients, you're going to set the tone for the working relationship. Refuse to put pen to paper until you get these two things.

Draft (google) a contract/letter of agreement. Mine spells out that I require 50% down before I start anything. It has really made a difference.
