Here here. Our studio sometimes gets the same treatment from some rather large clients. It's startling the way they brush off our industry at times... yet they come crying to you at the last minute with their immediate needs and production problems. Glug.
We could turn this into an epic rant thread. Just sayin'.

Actually, give it a day or two. cool down. Call him with a clear head and say... "Sorry things didn't work out, here's an invoice for my time/services."
Focus on the facts now.
- events over and he didnt use your work. no point in fighting about it now.-He's a dick and sounds very unprofessional, don't ever work for this guy again.
-Be calm and focus on whats important now. getting paid.
If you start talking shit to this guy and start a fight its gonna be a bitch getting your cash.just my 2¢

Do you have a written agreement with the client? Did you get half up front?
The client sounds like a total douchebag, but if you don't have either of these things, then let this be a lesson. Every single client you will ever work with has the potential to turn into a douchebag client. Every. Single. One.
Having a signed agreement that covers such things as payment, cancellation terms, etc. will protect you from this situation. Getting half up front will nearly guarantee that this doesn't happen again.
- Smashing Magazine just put up this get bit on freelance contracts. http://www.smashingm…noneck

how about this.
I had a client who gave me a shit ton of copy riddled with errors. and then is mad at me when the comp I put up has errors in it. Thats fine. I change them and put the comp back up. Ok more errors in another part of the project. Mind you this is a very small brochure.
ok I send in the comp, I hear nothing, she prints a few copies.
More errors.
WTF send me some copy without being totally fucked up because your too fucking lazy to take care of it.
on top of everything its more of a favor!!!

It's the profession that just keeps on giving.

send the invoice and forget about it as soon as you can. there is nothing you can really do, except of not working for this idiot again. any other (aggressive) actions may sound cool at the moment, but in the end you only hurt yourself, no matter in which way. been there, done that, smartest thing to do is grab the money and move on.
- kelpie0
Never do posters/artwork for people who 'run events'. They are all, to man, useless shitheads who believe they are doing you a favour, that your profession is some kind of offshoot of theirs and there to be exploited.
- marky_brown0
Right him up on as many forums as you can ... maybe get sued ... but you'll feel a heck of a lot better.
