A bit of a weird and wonderful film that I just watched for the first time last night.
Wouldve liked a bit of warning like "Warning 80% of this film is softcore porn and nakedness so probably best to watch with closed curtains if watching on projector on your main living room wall where neighbours or people out in the street might be able to see what you are watching"
Not sure what to make of the film. The story was decent but couldnt help but feel it'd been made too "arty" (too much drugs maybe?).

Im a huge fan of Bowie's music and have been meaning to watch this for years. Worth the rent?

I bought it, was £4 from HMV.
I'd been meaning to see it for years too.Bowie with his skinny, strange gaunt features plays a great part in the film. And the whole concept of the film and commentary on modern society is spot on. Great cover too on this version.
There honestly is a lot of gratutious nakedness and romping in it which although im not going to grumble seeing a bit of tit and fanny haha, I did think it was a bit much and would have rather had more storyline in there.
- again, what are you talking about. there's ONE scene at the end where Bowie is prancing around naked with that chickKhurram

Brilliant film. Made by one of the most talented men of British cinema - Nick Roeg.
Have no idea what you're talking about "80% softcore porn", you must have a prudish temperament.
Explores familiar Roeg themes of corruption and our cultural values and desires.
Bowie is also brilliantly cast.

bowie definitely made the role - no one else could have pulled it off like that. awesome movie.

Nah im not prudish. Maybe I just noticed more as it was 90" across my living room wall and had to close all the shutters on the windows when the nakedness came on screen and continued to do so throughout the film otherwise neighbours and people in the street wouldve been wondering what it was I was watching.
Also flatmate had his kid staying last night so was a bit para about them walkign in when the softcore was on lol.

Do his legs break when he goes in a lift? My dad reckons I've got a similar problem to him as I feel awful when i go in lifts but I didn't remember seeing it in the film - he's read the book though.

I've been trying to *cough cough* download it for month now
trivia question
do you know who else fell to earth??
- 23kon0
His legs buckle, they dont break, and he gets a nosebleed and starts spewing.

My parents got it for me for Christmas last year. It's a sweet movie.

Kharram
Theres loads of naked scenes.
About 20 mins in, one of the business guys shagging an 18yo girl while shes taking photos of the romp.
About 10 mins after that he's there shagging various other 18yo girls (not at same time) and each time they pull the covers down to reveal his cock and they say "you look nothing like my father".
Then theres bowie romping naked with the chick numerous times. What version were you watching? the PG version?
- wow dude, you made a log. rispekt. as a retort, however...Khurram
- i am aware there are early FLEETING scenes of nudity involving the black business guy. You mention two, i doubt there are moreKhurram
- there are more. Considering it is a 2.5hour film and you have fleeting early scenes and an extended bowie nudey sceneKhurram
- to say its "80% softcore porn" is far fetched to say the least.Khurram
- But then, i guess the "nudity" barely registers with me considering i am shameless and masturbate loudly to pornKhurram
- at full volume on a nightly basis without a hint of embarassment.Khurram
- And i own a fleshlight, stamina module.Khurram
- haha it wasnt an accurate log.
and oh yeah that wasnt including the black guys nakedness23kon

also my favourite nic roeg films in chronological order:
Performance, The Walkabout (not the pub, the film), Don't Look Now.
And if you like The Walkabout, checkout Peter Weir's Picnic at Hanging Rock
- Don't look now is amazing like all of his films reallyMal
- not sure Performance is Roeg.nilsnihil
- Roeg and Cammell joint.Khurram
- Cammell 90%
roeg took the fag end at request of studio.nilsnihil - really? how do you know this? are you a nerd? i will investigate thisKhurram
- all movie guide and wikipedia tells me you're wrong, or at least exageratingKhurram
- let me know what you find out. Actually Roeg pissed off and Cammell had to finish the mess of the film.nilsnihil
- well i find it was Cammel's "idea" but Roeg was responsible for the "look" of the film from the startKhurram

There's something like 100 different edits of this movie. Supposedly, when it originally shipped to theaters, every single print was slightly different.
Mid-1970s were a great period for movies--Network, Voyage of The Damned, Eyes of Laura Mars, etc., and this one was strong in the running.
- Great movie to take a chick to. You will score. It really shakes their hormones right up!boobs

What did Roeg say when he saw the re-edited cut?
He wanted his name removed, because he felt that too many liberties had been taken with the continuity. You have to realize, it was a collaborative effort, yet it was my screenplay, my concept. I directed the actors and Nick did what Nick does best, which is the director of photography.
Did it bother you that Roeg got the lion’s share of credit for Performance?
I don’t really want to discuss Nick, but I will say this: Nick went on to several features on the strength of Performance, and when you realize that the whole project was based on my friendship with Jagger, and the fact that Jagger trusted me, it does aggravate an already open wound. Enough said.

Yeah, i came across that, i think Roeg's comments in the Cammel documentary following his suicide are also illuminating in that he gives full credit to Cammel re: the themes of the film.
But Roeg WAS involved from the start and not only in terms of photography but also the cut-up editing style which is a Roeg TRADEMARK (as seen in films such as Walkabout, the man who fell...etc.)
It's all a much of a muchness really. Overall i think it would be fair to say that they both co-directed it, tho i wuzn't born at the time.

I went to a special screening of Moon on Sunday night. And Duncan Jones (Bowie's son) was there to do a Q&A about the movie. Unfortunately there was a technical hitch and the movie wasn't shown so I ended up watching something else completely different. I would have liked to have the seen the Q&A though; "anyone have any questions?" All the hands in the auditorium go up. Pause. "Anyone have any questions that aren't about David Bowie?" Pause, all the hands slowly come down...
