One other thing - massive warning on any electronic or self-cleaning litterbox. Just ask yourself this one question "What do I do when this thing breaks?"
We bought one for 100 bucks or so. It broke, and that was that.- I see them in thrift stores broken all the time.peddy28isgreat
- Second hand litter boxes? Ew.harlequino

I had cats for years, but now don't - we ended up getting an automatic litter and actually it worked great, using the bespoke litter the manufacturer recommended. Thats cats I lived with always 'belonged' to someone else, so I never (maybe twice) changed the litter, I always found it the most most most vile, rank, disgraceful thing in the world, the smell of cat piss, and maybe shit smearing down the side, or on the carpet was more than I could ever handle.
And they tear you shit up like carpets and couches and doors and sometimes piss and shit on or around your bed. Little fuckers. I'd never have cats again.- this has a lot to do with how they are raised and trained. i'd say the "owners" didn't properly care for their catsacescence
- you could say your experience was a cat-astrophy. . .peddy28isgreat

i use fresh step and you can buy it in huge bags at costco for cheap, it is horrible when you find you are out and your cat is looking at you like "i am about to use your rug if you don't clean that litter box"
- the liter doesn't matter so much, its the box. i have a house like one so i don't have to look at the business.nicole_marie

We use Arm & Hammer at our house. It works so good me and the missus have stopped using the toilet ourselves and just poop in the litter box with the cat.

Wood pellets... never tried it? What's the cost comparison to tidy cat or every other litter that claims to be the 'most effective odor reducer'?
I've also tried pretty much every litter under the sun. I would avoid any clumping/clay kind at all costs - that stuff tends to get very hard to clean and smells to high heavens.
I've been using Tidy Cats Multiple Cats for a few years now, which seems to be pretty good as far as odor goes. No matter which litter you use you still need to clean it once-a-day or every-other-day.

You've all got it wrong. Every single one of you. So sad...
I suggest you educate yourselves with the Charles Mingus Cat Toilet Training Program.
- HAHAHAHA, I forgot about that. One of the most wonderful weirdest things ever!harlequino
- His cat's name is "Nightlife." Seriously, does it get any better than that? NO.mg33

I use silica litter, sucks the liquid out of everything and doesn't smell like all the others.
My mother's cat is toilet trained, it's indeed possible and not that difficult, but you need an extra toilet while you're training them.

why did you not ask that at the pet store?
