Totally a car.
Seattle - Portland budget 3 hours.
Portland to SF - Budget 12 hours. Those are pretty high, so you can do Portland to Seattle in 2.5 hours. Portland to SF, you can do in 10 hours.
How much time do you have?
- You must drive fast dibec :)p-mac

You could take a train from SEA to PDX but I think it would be more fun to drive from PDX to SF.
When are you making your trip? I'm driving from PDX to SF next Thursday.

In Muir Woods, just north of SF, was a great soft-serve ice cream stand. But that was over 20 years ago... Maybe it's still there. The park is worth seeing anyway....

It's a bit of a detour, but I recommend heading over to Mt St Helens. Visit Ape Cave. Really cool - literally, dress warm.

Looks like it might have closed for the season?

I did Seattle to Portland on train and loved it. You can just sit back, relax and take in the scenery instead of having to stare at the road. Sounds like you'll have plenty of driving anyway. I'd mix it up.

In Portland, take the bike path along the river from Sellwood park all the way downtown then cross on the Steel Bridge and ride up to the pearl district and get some healthy food at Blossoming Lotus.
