In Portland, take the bike path along the river from Sellwood park all the way downtown then cross on the Steel Bridge and ride up to the pearl district and get some healthy food at Blossoming Lotus.

I'm originally from Salem, OR, so I mostly know of stuff around there. However In southern oregon, near the border to california there is a place called Rice Hill where you MUST stop for ice cream. It's on the west side of I-5.I don't know if the place has a real name but I think there is a giant burger on the sign and maybe the word EAT or DRIVE IN in big letters.

elle_e, thanks for the tip, i will definitely stop there on my drive through. this is the exact kinda info i'm looking for, so keep it comin!
i'm seattle now, good thing i brought my fall clothes. gonna volunteer at KEXP and go wander around. glad i didn't bother to bring my bike at the last minute.

In Muir Woods, just north of SF, was a great soft-serve ice cream stand. But that was over 20 years ago... Maybe it's still there. The park is worth seeing anyway....
