not mine but really keen to do the re-design, there are many many reasons why i don't like this logo, but i'd like to hear your opinins(if you can be bothered!)...its for local govt!...their mission statement:engaged in creative industries that lead the world; with freedom to celebrate
a distinctive blend of cultural heritage, architectural character and lifestyle
choice; in a city with a thriving central business heart and vibrant suburban
communities; and a strong and sustainable connection to a uniquely beautiful
harbour, peninsula and hinterland”.....say what!

Its not terrible (imho) but the text is very stiff for the mark being so fluid... but it doesnt kill it...anyways, is the city council going up in flames? because that mark just screams... "fire!!!"...or "natural gas sold here"
- OhYeah0
Looks very dated and also looks like a stock logo you get from one of the millions of template sites out there.

Wavy icons, what does it represent would be my first question, I would not ask a second question as my full understanding as a Graphic Designer know this Logo is shit.

stale/too corporate/no personality/boring

the council (as most councils) err on the side of conservatism ...it definitely does not reflect their mission statement.
any thoughts on the font?
on the practical side...it does not size well....and the black'n'white version is nasty

apparently the shapes are similar to the region(geographically)it belongs to in new zealand and also form the lettering DCC(dunedin city council)

almost random, abstract shapes that even a designer must look at twice to see as the acronym for a city council???? shite.
Boring corporate colour choice??? Shite
Having text so small it's hard to read, priceless!!

colours....are the otago regional colors..which i reckon are dated too

...fully agree Amicus....good to have fresh eyes on this to critique it
- no problemo.. I have some friends who live in Dunedin, and are probably the exact opposite of what this logo represents.Amicus

can we have it a bit bigger?
- Amicus0
so the colours are slightly better on this version, but the fact they have two different colour versions is just another reason they need a rethink.
- movingpixel0
or it could mean that they may be used improperly ..outside the logo usage guideline
- true, but also a reason that it needs to be under the control of a professional designer.Amicus

the font looks fairly non de-script eh?...no personality at all....

it's clearly a fast-paced and dynamic city... I mean, it's shit, but it could just be "evolved".. the symbol could be dissected and reworked so it's less random, while retaining the same meaning... Agree the colours and typesetting need a complete rethink though...
- I only say this as it's easier to convince a client to take an evolutionary approach rather than a complete rebrand..neue75_bold
- movingpixel0
agreed....especially because it is local government....this logo was agreed on 5 years ago...and the decision went through an extensive consultation process....so it make sense to evolve the logo...

I wish you the best of luck, it's always a hard sell, convincing clients that the notion of brand equity is a bit of fallacy for most things is always tricky and at the end of the day they usually don't buy into it.. Beyond that, the reality of having loads of stationary, collateral, signage etc that already contains the existing logo is a whole other thing to be aware of..
- appreciate your comments..many of the comments hav consolidated my original thoughts...ta!
