Hey, no matter how you set your kerning, some shit on here won't be happy!

I would say be humble and don't think you can create some amazing new typeface completely from scratch on your first run. Most of the time when I see people do this it turns out as total shit. Start with a slight modification of an existing face, as this will also help teach you how a good typeface is constructed.

...or a fixed width, stencil type face? - this way the kerning isn't as big an issue.
Like ukit says, it probably won't be amazing, but I guess you could always upload it to dafont and give it away.
