Can't seem to connect a Nikon D70s to PC/Vista. Worked ok so far.
DSRL working, identifies PC plug, cable ok, usb port ok. D series drivers installed.
Only changes I did to the system recently were:
1. new wacom drivers for bamboo/pen
2. installed a new AV.Any ideas from you peeps?

check disk management (mycomputer>manage) to see if its using a drive letter that you already have for something else. if it is, just change the drive letter to an unused one.

Connecting the camera rather than the media is slow anyway.

- i have the same one for my old 20D. Very fast transfer!ok_not_ok
- I've got something similar and it works awesome.designbot
- I have the lexar one.Jnr_Madison
- wooo look at those huge cards.akrokdesign

I take it you have already disabled the new AV to see if it works then?
- No... I didn't see the connection between those two factors...Corvo2
- me neither but I always try everything.Jnr_Madison
- good point. I'll try that after checking External HD + DSRL on.Corvo2

@ jonturi. the camera uses G: usually i think.
All I have in disk management is:
a blank drive (?)
C:Then in My computer
C:
D: (Memory Stick)
E: (DVD RW)F: usually starts when I plug a USB pen.
G: usually starts when I plug the camera...Wait I installed a external HD some months ago... Could this be causing this?... Not sure if I used the camera after that.
- It should just give it a new drive letter.Jnr_Madison
- yeah but i never connected the two (DSRL and ext HD at the same time). Maybe G got assigned to the HD?Corvo2
- try it.Jnr_Madison
- Corvo20
Hmmm, not working...
The external HD uses F: as the USB stick... tada sound+drive letter appears... when I plug in the camera no sound, nothing...
- jonturi0
we have a network drive that uses F: and sometimes when i plug in a peripheral it puts itself as F: also, but you can't see it because the drive letter is already being used for something else. what you do to check is go into disk management and see if the camera is listed there. if it is, and it is using a drive letter that has already been take, just choose another letter for it (right click in disk managment on letter and select new). Not sure if this is the problem but this happens regularly at our office and once i found out it solved many mysteries.

Camera isn't listed. Did a "refresh" and new disk analysis in Disk Management.
Is it ok to change ext HD to H: right now? It's only backup. No paths/programs run from there.
- Corvo20
Bloody Hell!
Just plugged the wacom pen cable to the camera... and it's working.
Does this make any sense to you? I think the other cable was good...
- jonturi0
so either the cable (or its connections at each end) or its the drive issue. hard to say not being there.
try the wacom with the camera cable? see what happens.
re: Drive Letters: its probably ok to change it if you don't have any paths but i am not absolutely sure. "the warning windows will give you is: changing the drive letter of a volume might cause programs to no longer run."
if your camera is connected but not showing up on that list in disk management then its probably something else.
fyi i am a mac user at home so i am not a big windows / pc tech-head, just a frequent daily user.

ty all.
Your help was great.
@ jonturi (you're a big windows tech-head all right :P). I'll check the wacom with the camera cable after dinner. Finally going to have one.
And yes that change letter warning is a bit of a no go :) I'm not absolutely sure I don't have .exe in that drive either. Probably wouldn't miss them, but I'll try that at a later time since it's not needed to do that operation right now.
Will also check that CF card reader. Not that I use photography professionally enough to care much about transfer speeds between drives, but it's always good to be on the better end of things.
Again, thanks.
- Corvo20
It's the cable. DSRL cable didn't work with the wacom.
cheers, jonturi.
