Disable auto sync for Photos in itunes preferences.

yeah it's in the preferences...

what preferences?
i didn't find anything helpful in the system prefs, itunes prefs, or iphoto prefs...

In iTunes, select iPhone in the sidebar, then click the Summary tab. Deselect “Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected.” You can always sync by clicking the Sync button.

this also drives me nuts.

why is this such a difficult thing to change?
i even put "ignore" on sys prefs > cds and dvds and it's still launching and bouncing up and down like an overeager kid with ADD

Give this a shot:
Go into your Applications and open Image Capture. In the preferences set it to do nothing when a camera is attached.
Should work for you.

good lord man, thank you.
how on fucking earth am i supposed to know to open an app i didn't even know i had, let alone ever used, in order to change a setting for iphoto.
c'mon, apple. that's some seriously miscrosoft shit right there.

It's confusing yes. Image Capture handles all of that stuff, not iPhoto. I'm not sure why iPhoto was even opening for you???
Either way it won't come up anymore :P

was probably a setting which image capture prompted you first time a camera was plugged into the mac, and you clicked through ok without noticing.

You're fucked.
all your pictures are the property of Apple Inc. California.
