Got to do some flash banners and have not used flash for about 8 years.
Can you export from after effects to flash? Any tips?

export as a mov or FLV and import into flash

won't a mov or flv export be a file too large to work as an ad banner?

i take it you dont need to worry about file size? usually have to keep under 30k .. or 50k if you lucky. An actual movie would be about 1000x that.

Well, a lot of sites will allow streaming video. They usually have a very high file size spec for streaming video, like 2 megs. Not the standard IAB 30k Flash-based banners. It's usually served by a company who have Flash media streaming server (not a progressive download).
File size spec is something you'll want to find out before you start comping in AE. You won't be able to do video in a banner @ only 30k.

There is some sort of export format in CS4, XFL I think its called

If the site will allow a motif file, you can still have a large banner size, but it costs more to run the rich media files. What does the media buy call for?
- motif packages everything up so the site can serve the banner.Frosty_spl
- That's not what Motif is. Motif is specific to DoubleClick. It's their tracking/serving package.fyoucher1

I have CS4.
Basically animating a still of a TV exploding – alpha fade over an empty of the set we shot it in.
I think 60k is the limit – if anyone fancies helping me I can email you the move so you can have a look at it?

yeah, there is no way you are going to export that out of AE into flash while staying under 60k.
you are going to most likely have to recreate in flash...or dumb it down significantly. the joy of banners!
- you can send me an email if you want me to take a look at it. levelthirteen(at)gma... can't promise anything though.lvl_13

Yeh, easiest way (not the best way) would be to bring TV into Flash, break the image apart (Modify > Break Apart). But, keep a duplicate layer of the TV that's not broken apart. You should use this layer for any time you won't be doing an explosion. Keep it nice and tidy.
Using the lasso tool, randomly select small portions of the broken apart TV to create explosion "shards". Group each pice so they don't stick together. Do that until the entire TV is comprised of small shard symbols.
Make a "symbol" of each broken piece you select (but keep the TV together, don't move the shards). (Modify > Convert To Symbol or use the shortcut keys)
And then just animate each piece outwards for the explosion. If you're a noob to Flash, I'd just make basic motion tweens using the timeline. You should easily be able to get that within 100k.
