Anyone have any experience doing soccer ball graphics? The dieline is pretty daunting and was wondering how others had tackled the process.

Yeah, that is the direction we're going full cover graphics. But here is the dieline. Normally I would use the template to design on, but in this case you can't just slap a design straight onto the template because it folds so crazy. That's why I was wondering if there was a process to get to this point.

yes easy. go purchase many soccer balls, charge the client for the purchases, with the balls you now have a blank canvas.
draw or paint directly on the purchased balls and when you have a design, go back and re-draw it in the die-line provided to you by the client.
this way you can easily see your design on a finished product instead of trying to figure how it would like like from a flat spec of the die-line. once that is accomplished going back for the flat art will be easy as you would havee already laid out the path to take and the direction also you will have a mock-up prototype of the idea which can presented to the clients as an idea in motion.

Good idea, might have to do that on a small scale paper ball though. Thanks for the feedback.
- yes you got it, its just to visually see the idea on a 3D realm instead of 2D realm.e-pill
- i suggest a 1-1 size over a smaller size. scale plays a strong role in to finish.e-pill
- its always best to be as accurate as possible when making a mock up.e-pill
- you will be able to see all the mistakes and or achievements at one easy shot.e-pill

the voit one I have in my room uses a subtle pattern all over the ball, with 2 main tribal style graphics on the sides. then 2 logos in between. I'll take a pic its kinda cool.

7 or 8 years ago, when I first moved to NYC there was an exhibition with a bunch of custom soccer balls amongst other things. Think it was put on by Wooster Collective and maybe Puma. Should still have pictures somewhere...

Get your hands on copies of 3DSMax, Photoshop and Pepakura, then get a cutting pad, some scalpels, a printer, some sellotape, and some rigid paper stock.
Play.
