Ah fuck it, on the one hand its the insidious hand of totalitarian fate creeping in via the back door, but on the other hand there is a large proportion (majority?) of the population of Britain who behave like rabid psychotic scavenger rats. So fuck them for making everyone else's existence miserable and lets weld their front doors shut after installing the cameras... and only feed them on energy-sapping gruel delivered through a feed chute cut into the roof.
Pest Control sounds good to me.

I was flipping channels last night and on ABC they had some home improvement show which I forget the name of, but in this episode they go to the UK to do a project building a community park for some small town there...and one of the things was to build a shelter like building with a roof so the kids could play under in the rain...so they're building this thing and then the local politicians come by and say "Oh, hey, woah! You're building a structure with a roof.." And the American guy is like, "YEs, and...?" And the Brit says "Well, if you build a thing like that with a roof, well, people, especially children and t4eenagers might congregate under it." "Well, yes, that's the point." But the brit politician pressed on "Yes, you see, we can't have that. Who knows what sort of unhealthy activities might happen in their by these youths if there is a roof to provide the illusion of privacy for them."
The american guy just stared at him. And I stared at the TV. I was like "You brits are out of your fucking minds if that's how even small town politicians think.."Oh we can't do that just in case someone would do something bad..." No wonder you're all sliding into a survelliance state. Good luck with that.

That happens a lot TBO. Just down the road from me Fat Boy Slim / Norman Cook conceived of and entirely funded a skate park for local kids. He became a pariah in the area because he had provided a sort of melting pot for kids to congregate and get into all sorts of trouble. Such a big stink was kicked up that he felt obligated to withdraw entirely from the project for fear of becoming public enemy number one.
The skate park is still there, and the local kids DO congregate in it, and they drink, smoke, swear, shout, fuck around... all the things you do at that age. But at least they do it there, not in residential streets, which was where they were doing it until Norman Cook put his hand in his pocket to change the situation.
On the flipside, my Mom & Dad's local council in Birmingham built a big recreation area in the poor neighbourhood half a mile from my parent's. It was beautifully done by all accounts. All landscaped and made of really nice materials. The mayor was booked to come and officially open it. The night before however, somebody came along and stole it.
And I do mean they stole an entire children's recreation area... climbing frames, swings, slides, a giant roundabout, the playsafe rubber tarmac flooring, fencing, gates, paving slabs, the stone walls... everything.

So if they put a camera in your house to try and 'see' if you're doing your homework, then what on earth is to stop you just putting up a picture of you 'doing your homework' in front of the camera, then cunningly 'not do your homework', behind it.
Or selling the camera and the equipment, for drugs, and booze.
Or just busting it up ?English people are fucking stupid to put up with this.
