Hate it or love it? Who here listens to it / spins records / produces? Wonky uk styles or darker stateside stuff? I have been producing tunes for some years now with releases on indie labels like Shift, Trillbass, Rottun etc. If you are interested my music is here http://www.virb.com/selfsimilard…

is Burial dubstep?
- Yesbrains

- brandelec0

Definitely into the UK styles and the more experimental/ techno sounding stuff. Like Zomby, Various Production, and pretty much anything on Planet Mu. And then there is the more hip hop/ J Dilla influenced stuff like Flying Lotus (not sure if this really counts as dubstep anymore, probably not)
The more purist tradition dubstep that basically sounds like slowed down techstep jungle is boring IMHO.

I promote a few parties in Sd, but in all honesty, I like only some tracks, anything that is not dark, when it gets too dark I can't hang w it..
I would love for a subgenra like liquid is to drum n bass to emerge (purple maybe?)

It's really hit or miss with me. Sometimes people throw their hands in the air for the worst sounding shit, but tastes vary I suppose. Sometimes I'm really feeling the darker stuff but every now and then some uk stuff will really make me jump out of my chair. Reso is one producer I really like. Big tunes from him.

^^ Was a Cubase user for a long time, then used gear (MPC 2000xl, some Korgs etc). I use Reason at the moment but I'm pretty much over the whole midi trigger shit and want to get back to some good ol audio chopping. I'm buying Logic here in a few days.

just started listening to this Brackles mix... interesting to hear it start fusing back into garage.

frequenting dub war in nyc.
i think flying lotus and distance remains favourites

but for me the stuff on Skull Disco is still the perfect balance of dub+tech+bass.

Man I could never get used to any of those programs, they always seemed like such a cluster f*ck to me (Reason comes to my mind first). Is the cost factor why so many peeps use software instead of buying the equipment to produce? I've always been interested in experimenting..just wish I could find some cheap hardware.
- much cheaper to use software. Hardware is getting more affordable though.egosmoke
- Yeah I kind of figured. Nice tracks btw, listening now.designbot
- you can get early 2000/late 90s equipment for cheap right now. emu ultra samplers, nords, etc...sublocked
- software also offers a streamlined workflow. best to combine the two imho...sublocked
- yeah sublocked that's what I was thinking (buying some older equipment) hopefully soon. Thanks for the advice.designbot
