Microsoft and Yahoo enter into a 10 year agreement. Bing will become the search engine for Yahoo, and Yahoo will handle ad placement for the two companies.

I look forward to 10 tears of spam and in your face advertising.

yahoo seems to be the most comprehensive online ad profiler in existence. all of your actions upon creating an account are sold to companies. this should turn out to be a frightening collaboration.
i'll stick with google, not because of the ad issues, but because it's the only company out of the three with a name that can be used as a verb.

Interesting, didn't realize the MSFT + Yahoo account for only 11% of global search combined.

I have used yahoo mail for a long time now, I always liked it. Other than that I never use yahoo or microsoft on the net.
I do notice more and more people using Bing though.

would someone who understands stocks explain why YHOO went down 12% today?
- it's simple. "Microsoft and Yahoo enter into a 10 year agreement."imakethepictures
- stock was up on the rumor that it would happen. Now that it's gone ahead nobody cares and stock fell to a more reasonable valuation.monNom
- ...valuation.monNom
- or any number of other rediculous explinations for why the herd does what it does.monNom

and how is that bad for yahoo?

Terms of the deal for Yahoo were expected to be better.

"Investors aren’t thrilled with the deal, and it is not just because they tend to value cash over potential. This is a ten-year arrangement between two lumbering giants that is filled with execution risk. It is a very complicated deal. Yahoo’s sales team has enough trouble communicating with its own engineers. Now they have to learn how to talk to Microsoft’s.
The two companies will work hard to pull this off. Their futures depend on it. And the deal is structured in a way that makes sure both sides make more money the more searches and advertising dollars Bing generates. Getting to that ideal state, though, won’t be easy. In the meantime, as they work through all of the implementation issues, Google could strengthen its position and take even more share."
