I've seen some great samples of HD videos shot with this beauty.
Has anyone ever used this for professional short films or music/tv videos? I believe I saw a music video once shot with this camera but can't remember what it was.
Here are some samples btw...
*watch on HD...

Got any good samples? Thanks!

how many minutes can you shoot at once?
how much does it cost?
is it the only camera that cn do that yet?- cost more than a real HD camera.robotron3k
- yeah, but can you change lenses on the "real hd" cameras?inv

Don't know if it's the only one, but I've seen it in action and it is sweet!

-12 minutes
-US: $ 3,499 with lens kit
-I believe there is only one other that does Full HD. The Panasonic DMC-GH1- there is new entry level canon that shoots HD for around 8 or 9 hundredlambsy
- it only does 20fps at Full HD. can't shoot professional short films or music videos with that.ephix
- it does 24 and 30 fps at the lower HD settinglambsy
- (i read the specs a while back, i might be mistaken though)lambsy
- if we're adding 720p hd then the nikon does it tooephix

Ti4 does it with 20fps :P

my Lumix LX3 is shooting HD, but this is the lense that make ALL the difference here.

^ exactly, a 3500 dollar camera... with 50k in lenses.
one issue i hear of a lot with these is stuck pixels in video mode- lots and lots of "hot" pixels. apparently this is very common on these cameras, but in still photos the software is able to compensate and remap the stuck ones, but this is not possible in video apparently.
- whats a stuck pixel and hot pixel?benfal99
- when a pixel stops responding and gets "stuck", it shows up as a white dot in picsacescence
- especially distracting in video, as they remain stationary on the screenacescence
- I haven't seen any hot pixels with my 5d2. also you don't need 50k lenses. you can get good results from a $100 lensephix
- sure, good results, but not that vid on gizmodo linked up there ^acescence
- still better than a hd video camera for the same moneyephix
- 1) you're a mug if you pay $3500, 2) you're a mug if you pay $50k on lenses, 3) Stuck pixels are zero problemgjd

I own this camera and it rocks.
Wait for nothing, this camera is the shiznit and will soon be able to shoot 24p with new firmware updates. I owned the HV30 with an adapter and I couldn't get half the quality this baby does out of the box. I can shoot 45 minutes of video on a 16 gig card.
Have seen some great work with 1-2 lenses that rivals cinema in terms of quality and color with little to no color grading. These were shot with the 5D

The 5D2 kicks all other DSLR-Video Cameras arse at the moment, but with the probable D700x there is no reason why Nikon wouldn't make that better and outshoot the Canon.
No point in anything less than Full Frame, you get Jelloshake and the results are nowhere near as good (I have a D90 and have played with both).
Don't bother with the Panasonic GH1, its a hybrid camera and not a proper DSLR anyway. Wait a few months, save your dough, wait for the likely update on the D700 its sure to be miles better than other options.

ps.
purists know nothing. DSLR is where it's going, to get the quality of the 5D2 you're looking at Red Cameras and up, shitty HD cameras cannot compare for lens variety and cinematic feel, especially not for £2,200.
It's fiddly, it's inconvenient, it's takes getting used to, but in 5 minutes you can already see how its better than any dedicated video camera for many things.
In 3 years the technology is gonna be scary good.
Check out google for Vincent Laforet's rig experiments (think it's on his site) using dedicated film equipment rigs, mics, dollies etc. with the 5D2 - brilliant

Help!!
Ok. Here's the issue. I used my brother's 5D mkII to video/photo my son's birth and hospital stay, etc. I just heard from my brother that all video and photos seem to be corrupt and that they're not even opening (unrecognized file?) so, we might have lost all footage and photos of that day. Fock!! Is there a way to fix this or save them from CF? Please, id there is a way let me know, this is very important :(Thanks!
- version30
are you sure his system is up to date?

An issue to keep in mind is sound. If you're going to shoot something with dialog or want to capture good environment/ambient sound, you're going to need to record separately to a better source. Which means in post you have the added headache of synching sound.

Also - check out Phillip Bloom on Vimeo.

He does a lot with the 5D.And don't overlook the Lumix GH1. If I were to choose one or the other right this second, I would go with the Lumix. Also half the price.

since we are on topic ... here is a photo/video clip ... I was experimenting and testing the 5D Mark II. At least the song is good ... =P
