Settled on Expression Engine after trying a few different ones.
Wordpress is pretty good too but I don't like the way the UI is structured as much.

Personally, I've used Wordpress for my own small clients, looking at using concrete5. At work, we've used Umbraco (alright sitebuilder), ECF (ugh!!!!), our own custom system, and something else..

Wordpress for it's plugins
Our own, because it impresses clients
Hacked up versions of x-cart, zencart because of the other functionality they offer.

We use Sitecore at Enterprise-level and Silverstripe for small projects.

wordpress - open source, highly extensible, and wpmu/buddypress are also very well supported.

Expression Engine. Far more flexible than anything else, but with a steep learning curve.
- Personally, I'd disagree with the learning curve comment - compared to similarly capable packages, anyway.Nairn
- It's just a bit.. odd, is all.Nairn
- Well there you go.dajaniel
- only thing we learned over here is that Nairn has control issues. :PPoint5
- not really, but I'm just trying to spice up an otherwise boring and informative threadPoint5

I don't think ee is really that much more complicated than WP, maybe what makes it seem that way is the lack of templates, whereas WP has a zillion templates out there to get you started.
I wish the people making ee would do a better job with that, it seems like a lot of their user base are pretty hardcore developers so they have been focusing on other things.

wp needs more cms like templates... everything is blog centric with little you could use for a corp site :/

using wordpress at the moment, does the job quite well

Used to be MODx and is now ExpressionEngine. If clients quibble at the cost of an EE license then it doesn't bode well for them paying invoices.

ExpressionEngine 2 is going to be a dramatic improvement over the current software in features, codebase, and workflow. I'm really looking forward to it.
