you mean like use a template? like those guys whose work you took from who were using templates... image all the thousand of man hours you will save with a template.
hmmm. this is getting interesting.

ha. thx, im trying to find a way to build my clients site for damn near free on development hours. so yes, im trying to do for free what someone else was doing for 6grand. im not the fastest programmer, so i am looking at "buying some flash code" and it hurts to do so... it feels like exactly what i just bitched about, but with a 9day deadline looming on what the "other guys" had a chance to do in 5 months yeah, im looking to buy some code/templates.... it is interesting isnt it. thx for following the story ;)

buy a template what's the problem? Look at the reviews, see if people had problems with shit and pray. They're usually $20-50 so no biggie if one is unworkable.
I figured someone who programs a lot would have a framework that would make coding sites up pretty simple.
There is also Flex Catalyst beta, that thing does some of the stuff people want templates for. http://www.gotoandlearn.com/
What kind of site is it?

i bought a simple photog site template - worked pretty well. flashden. i'd recommend.

yeah, i think these things can be pretty good. i mean, if you've used a filter in photoshop, rounded corners in indesign or the envelope distort in illustrator you've used preset designs / styles.
the key to good design is to solve a given communication problem with a simple solution and good design. if you use a preset element then the better designers/developers will tweak them.
i mean, how many people here have used Lightbox (or similar) for pop-up images on clients websites? what's the difference between using that and say and mp3 player from flash den.
the funny thing is where do you draw the line? if you buy a great opentype font and use variations of that for a logo and branding package then are you cheating by not creating a font from scratch? should you use photoshop or create an application from scratch?
in my experience you need to have a good idea what you're doing to really make the most of the templates / elements you can buy from these online options. good will always show through i think.

I think those sites are good for getting a code or component that does something simple - like falling snow or leaves or something.
But thinking that you are not going to have to do any work - what's the point then? Why even be a designer?
- depends on timeframes and budget here in my reality.airey

as an example of themeforest (the same family as flashden), i have a client that wanted a new website with a content management system and a blog. i know a little of wordpress so wanted to use that and the budge wasn't very big.
i used this theme:
http://www.kriesi.at/demos/?wpth…and design this for them:
http://www.jazz.qld.edu.au/it was done in a week and to the budget. i'm happy and the client is really happy. sure i didn't reinvent the wheel but i solved the clients needs, made a few bucks and we all move on. i think that's kind of the aim.

thx for the example airey. im building a flash site with a back-up wordpress site so i am having to get a theme that i can edit to match the flash ui. trying to build a site in a few weeks for next to nothing has made me appreciate buying components and themes. its cut the dev time in a third b/c i had sketched it out and then known what components i was lacking. i think buying a bunch of this stuff up and trying to create a site with no design direction would be a real horror.

the answer to flashden is rapidshare.com ;-)

- About the post od eatbreathdrive, i'm author in ActiveDen. What you said are just damaging developers and designers (that's mean, sure mainly 80% of this community users).
Kind of answers like yours should be banned here. If you are not willing to expend 15$ in a full site and support with it the designers who made it with lot efforts, at least just keep your big mouth closed.unpezvivo

EatBreathDrive, i see for other of your post here in QBN that you are a developer. So your post here looks even more pathetic.
