designing a social networking site and was wondering if anyone could show me some cool stuff that can be done in php to give the site more features
Horoscopes. You can never go wrong with horoscopes. And quizes. You know, like "What Guitar Chord Are You?" or "What Type of Deli Meat Are You?" That's where the money is at jack with all that PHP social network shit...
$random = (rand()%999);
print("HEY! I GIV TO YOU RANDOM NUMBR: $random");
not making it - i'm designing it
There are soooooo many things that can be done with PHP. For example, facebook is written in PHP. So, anything that is being done there can be done.
php can make you coffee and give you a soapy.
Sounds like your client has really thought this one through.
So she thought she'd let the designer think about the feature set?
This is a recipe for a billing extravaganza, and/or a disaster... why? Designing something visually before you have a clear idea of the invisible code/database underpinnings leads to endless coding.... and recoding and lots of "we didn't think of that" moments...
look at the Google Wave presentation
you could build an alarm clock.
in my opinion, the cooler things are usually client side based, and communicate with server side scripts (you know, ajaxy shit). if you were building the framework as well as designing, i've heard good things about buddypress http://buddypress.org/ (especially if you're familiar with wordpress).
Let me understand this, you're designing a site, apparently using php without knowing what the site is supposed to do, or what php is capable of. This should end well.
